Fr. Applauds Texas Lawmakers for Protecting Consumers from Having to Finance Abortions

Priests for Life

August 14, 2017

NEW YORK – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today praised the Texas legislature for passing legislation that spares people from having to subsidize abortions through their health insurance plans.

“The Texas legislature recognizes that killing an unborn child is not health care and, thus, should not be included in health insurance coverage,” said Fr. Pavone.  “No one should have to pay for another’s abortion.”

Texas lawmakers on Sunday night passed legislation that bars private and public health insurance plans from covering abortion, except to save a mother’s life.  The measure still allows abortion coverage to be purchased through a separate policy.  Ten other states already have laws protecting consumers from having to finance abortion through their health insurance.

“Texas is blessed to have lawmakers and a governor who understand the difference between serving the public and killing the public,” added Fr. Pavone.  “Texas has elected true public servants.”
