TITUSVILLE, FL – Priests for Life, the nation’s largest Catholic pro-life organization dedicated to ending abortion, will increase its political activism to work toward the election of pro-life candidates at every level of government.

“The election season of 2018 has begun,” said Father Frank Pavone, National Director, noting that voters went to the polls yesterday in Texas to cast ballots in the nation’s first primary election. Illinois has its primary on March 20.

“Just as we have a moral obligation to vote in general elections, we also have a moral obligation to vote in the primaries,” he said. “We are never free to ignore an election.”

At PoliticalResponsibility.com voters can see the “What Comes Next” calendar to keep track of primary dates, voter registration deadlines and when early voting begins in their states.

Priests for Life will be sending action alerts and parish email blasts and faxes to make sure voters in each state are kept abreast of important dates and issues, and that pastors are preparing their people to take part in the elections.

“It is not partisan politics for the clergy to prepare their people to vote; it is, rather, a pastoral activity to equip God’s people to make a difference in society,” said Fr. Pavone. “To remind them when voter registration deadlines and voting periods are occurring is something every parish should be doing – unless, of course, we want to make the Church irrelevant to the daily life of our nation and its citizens.”

“We will be pushing in an unprecedented way to get people out to vote, and to vote pro-life,” Father Pavone said. “This year is the 20th anniversary of the U.S. Bishops’ document ‘Living the Gospel of Life,’ and we will echo its teachings, which are as relevant today as ever.” (See more at www.GospelOfLife.net.)
