WASHINGTON -- Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today thanked 169 Republican House members and 49 Republican senators who have promised President Trump to stand with him as he vetoes any pro-abortion funding bills sent to his desk.
“Letters sent from both houses of Congress are an important signal to Democrats that the Republicans will not allow the pro-life gains of President Trump’s first two years in office to be undone, nor will they allow the pro-abortion crowd to gain an inch of ground,” Father Pavone said.
The House effort, led by pro-life stalwart Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey, ensures that the president’s vetoes will survive any override effort, which would require a two-thirds vote in each house. Republicans are the majority in the Senate so no pro-abortion funding bill would be likely to make it to the floor for a vote.
“Both the House and Senate should be commended for making it clear to the Democrats that their efforts to force taxpayers to pay for abortions will unequivocally fail.”
