House Republicans working to get a vote on Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act; Dems Can’t Bring Themselves to Protect Newborns

WASHINGTON, D.C.  -- Beginning Feb. 6 and on every day the House of Representatives has been in session since, Republican members of the House have been calling for immediate consideration of HR 962, the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, that would protect children born alive after a failed abortion, and provide for their appropriate medical care.

All of these requests have been captured on video and can be seen at

“The videos give viewers a glimpse into how hard of heart the Democrats in Congress have become. There is no human decency on display here, as they invoke procedural rules to do what most Americans find unthinkable: To kill babies after they are born,” said Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life.

The Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act does not limit abortion in any way.

As Republican Rep. Steve Scalise of New Orleans said during a Feb. 8 colloquy with Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-MD:

“To many, this issue transcends abortion. This isn’t related to abortion anymore if a baby comes out of the womb and is alive. The fact that in only 26 states there are protections that that baby can’t be killed, that means that in nearly half the states in this country, that baby can still be killed legally. I still don’t completely grasp how that’s legal in America.”

Republicans will keep up this effort for 30 legislative days and then will file a discharge petition that would force a vote in the House if it is signed by a majority of members. That likely will take place in the first week of April.

The U.S. Senate is set to vote on the bill Feb. 25.

“The American people need to know this is happening; this is a fork in the road for our nation. I am calling on all our membership, and on every Church in America, to support the Republicans’ efforts on this bill, and to challenge the absolutely disgraceful position that the Democrats are taking,” Fr. Pavone concluded.
