Last Saturday, Operation Save America launched “Operation Save Denver” with a protest at a Planned Parenthood facility. The group, part of Operation Rescue, will continue to hold protests, seminars, and speaking events throughout the week with the purpose to raise awareness about abortion.

A group of pro-life Christians visited Boulder on Tuesday for several scheduled events, including a prayer meeting on the street and a speech by Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life at the Boulder Bandshell in the morning.

The day before, members of Operation Save America held a prayer meeting in front of the Planned Parenthood Headquarters. The peaceful protest was followed by a march to the Capitol in Colfax.

Denver, Colorado is the first place to legalize abortion in America, in April 1967. On Monday, Operation Save America released 50 white doves, representing the 50 million children they say have been aborted in the U.S. since then.

The activities of Operation Save America have often stirred up controversy. Participants at the events held up graphic pictures of aborted babies, raising sharp responses from passersby. Some outright disagree with the group’s message; others agree that abortion is wrong, but criticize Operation Save America’s methods.

Still others showed their support for the demonstrators, stating that the pictures show the truth about abortion. Some confessed that the images have made a strong impact on their lives, convincing them to turn away from abortion.

Supporters of abortion rights and members of social justice organizations have been told not to take action or argue against demonstrators. Participants in Operation Save Denver have signed a pledge of non-violence. So far, demonstrations have been peaceful. Events will continue throughout the week.
