Staten Island,NY – Dr. Alveda King, Pastoral Associate of Priests for Life and niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., today challenged pro-lifers, especially those who voted for a pro-abortion candidate, to fight for their pro-life convictions.
“To everyone who said, ‘I am pro-life, but I will vote for a pro-abortion candidate this time,’ I say now is the time to prove your commitment to the unborn,” said Dr. King. “March for truth and justice. Flood the White House and Congress with messages that you do not agree with the slaughter of innocent children. Stand up for ‘the least of these.’”
“Preachers, preach life;” added Dr. King, “warriors, pray for life; soldiers, fight for life. The pro-life battle begins anew. We march on!”
Fr. Pavone and Priests for Life have been widely credited with having a strong influence in the Presidential elections of 2000 and 2004. With a vast media outreach and church activation effort, Priests for Life was named in 2006 among the top 20 Christian political organizations in the country (www.thechurchreport.com). After the 2000 elections, Judge William Clark, who served in President Reagan’s cabinet, praised the efforts of Priests for Life for having “won the election.” Deal Hudson, former chairman of Catholic Outreach at the Republican National Committee, writes in his recent book that Priests for Life is “the most successful Catholic political advocacy group in the nation” (Onward, Christian Soldiers, p. 147).
