Leaders of various national Catholic apostolates are gathering today in Birmingham for a three-day conference. The Catholic Leadership Conference has been meeting annually for quite a few years.
Father Frank Pavone, who serves on the Steering Committee, will address the gathering today. His topic will be the importance of open and honest communication within the church, based on the doctrinal and spiritual reality of "communion" as taught by the Second Vatican Council in the writings of St. John Paul the Second. A key reference for this talk will be the book of Russell Shaw, former communications director for the United States Catholic bishops, entitled "Nothing to Hide: Secrecy, Communication, and Communion in the Catholic Church".
