Fr. Pavone Lauds State Department’s Defunding of Forced Abortion

NEW YORK  –  Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today praised the State Department’s announcement that the United Nations Population Fund will no longer receive taxpayer funding because of its involvement in China’s policy of forced abortion.

“The outrage of the Obama administration’s ‘see no evil’ policy that financed forced abortions and coerced sterilizations in China and other dictatorships is finally over,” said Fr. Pavone.  “The United Nations Population Fund is a broker of oppression.  That our country funded this organization in violation of federal law is a disgrace.”

The State Department has determined that the UN Population Fund has been in violation of the Kemp-Kasten Amendment, a federal spending restriction that bars taxpayer money from going to any group that “supports or participates in the management of a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization.”  In spite of its partnering with China’s brutal population control program, the UN fund received over $280 million from the Obama administration.

“’Bravo’ to President Trump for ending American support of this death dealing organization and for consistently turning his pro-life commitment into pro-life action,” added Fr. Pavone.
