Fr. Pavone Hails New Trump Budget that Defunds Planned Parenthood

NEW YORK – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today hailed President Donald Trump’s Fiscal Year 2018 budget which excludes Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers from receiving federal funding.

“The President’s budget truly is, as it’s titled, ‘A New Foundation for American Greatness,’” said Fr. Pavone. “A great country does not send money to those who kill its children. It’s appropriate not to force taxpayers to subsidize abortionists and it’s logical to exclude Planned Parenthood from health programs – abortion is not health care.”

The newly released national budget for the fiscal year starting on October 1 contains a provision that allocates money from the Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Labor only to entities that do not perform abortions. The budget reflects President Trump’s campaign promise to direct taxpayer funds away from Planned Parenthood and to comprehensive health care providers that don’t abort babies.

“While taxpayers’ dollars don’t pay directly for most abortions, they do pay for part of the overhead of abortion clinics. That means tax money is being used to facilitate the termination of babies’ lives,” added Fr. Pavone. “The administration’s budget is a great step toward finally getting the government out of the abortion business.”
