NEW YORK – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today lauded the victory of Congresswoman-elect Karen Handel in Georgia’s special election to fill the seat of Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price.
“Karen Handel’s victory is not only a triumph for the cause of life, it’s yet another well-deserved defeat to the death dealers at Planned Parenthood,” said Fr. Pavone. “Congresswoman-elect Handel knows that a billion-dollar abortion corporation shouldn’t receive money from legitimate charities and certainly shouldn’t be subsidized by taxpayers. Babies in the womb – and all Americans who value them – have another strong voice in Congress in Karen Handel.”
Mrs. Handel, who attempted to redirect money away from Planned Parenthood and toward groups that provide comprehensive cancer screening while at the Susan G. Komen Foundation, defeated a pro-abortion candidate in the special election to fill Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District. The race had been considered too close to call, but Mrs. Handel won by a four-point margin.
“Planned Parenthood can buy a lot with its money – it can hire major public relations firms, build fancy offices, and threaten people who dare to oppose it – but it can’t buy legitimacy and it can’t buy votes,” added Fr. Pavone. “The people of Georgia’s Sixth District have spoken and like most Americans, they want their money used for healing, not killing. Congratulations to Congresswoman-elect Handel for standing toe-to-toe with Planned Parenthood and emerging victorious!”
