NEW YORK -- Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, and Evangelist Alveda King, director of Civil Rights for the Unborn for Priests for Life, are honored as two of the “40 Faithful” highlighted in the American Family Journal’s July-August 2017 edition.
The magazine, which will be available July 7 at www.afajournal.org, salutes Father Pavone for devoting his life to pro-life work since 1993, when he took the helm of Priests for Life.
“AFA is grounded in the biblical belief that human beings are created in the image of God, valuable and worthy of respect and dignity in all areas of life. … Father Pavone has been a prominent leader in communicating these principles,” the magazine states.
The magazine notes that Ms. King’s uncle, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, and father, Rev. A.D. King, were both civil rights leaders who were murdered for “heroically standing for justice.”
“She has carried on their legacy in her fight for the unborn,” her profile states.
The new issue celebrates the 40th anniversary of the American Family Association, which was founded in 1979 by Don Wildmon and originally called the National Federation for Decency.
“AFA Journal staff decided to celebrate our fortieth anniversary by turning the spotlight not on ourselves but on 40 of you – true activists, men and women who have appeared on our pages over the years. … Simply men and women faithful to follow Christ, to be salt and light in the areas they’ve been called to address.”
Father Pavone called his inclusion among the “40 Faithful” a “tremendous honor.”
“I’m grateful to be included among others who work tirelessly to restore our nation to its founding principles of life and liberty for all, including the unborn," Fr. Frank said. "We never do this kind of work alone, but rather with tremendous allies, among whom are Don Wildmon, Tim Wildmon and the whole team at the American Family Association. I salute them for their work and am proud to stand with them!”
Ms. King, joining in those sentiments, also said she was happy to see her father’s contributions to the civil rights movement recognized along with those of her uncle, Martin Luther King.
“The pro-life movement is the civil rights movement of the 21st century,” she said. “The right to life is our first and most fundamental right.”
