Our Lady of Guadalupe, Pray for Us!
Dear Friend in Christ,
We are beginning a mission to bring the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe to
every abortion site in the country on her feast day, Sunday December 12, 1999,
at 3 p.m. As the nation unites with one voice of prayer and petition, we ask Our
Lady to intercede in a special way for the unborn and help us stop the human
sacrifice as she did in Mexico.
In 1531, Our Lady appeared to Blessed Juan Diego in what is now Mexico City,
leaving a miraculous image of herself on his cloak. Within a decade over
9,000,000 Aztecs were baptized and the practice of human sacrifice ended. These
are some of her words to Juan Diego: "I am your merciful Mother, the Mother of
all who live united in this land, and of all mankind, of all those who love me,
of those who cry to me, of those who have confidence in me...Am I not your
Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection?...Is there anything else you
need?"
On his visit to Mexico in January 1999, our Holy Father, Pope John Paul II,
elevated the liturgical celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe to the rank of
Feast and encouraged all of the Americas to take her as their Patroness. In
Denver he stated, "America defend life!...Do not be afraid to go out on the
streets and into public places...".
Our Bishop, the Most Reverend Carl Mengeling of the Diocese of Lansing, has
given his support for this project with these words: "Your public crusade for
human life through the intercession of Mary, the Mother of Life, will unite
thousands in prayer for this sacred cause. All our efforts of education,
advocacy, etc., depend on prayer. You have my endorsement".
We are planning a peaceful gathering, respecting the limitations established
by law, and will provide a 2 x 3-ft. image for each site. The event will be
publicized in the Catholic media, and all parishes and families are welcome to
participate. We are hoping for an enthusiastic response on this day so close to
the Jubilee, and have every confidence in Mary's intercession for the unborn in
our country.
Please contact us if you want to help with this event which will take place
at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 12th .
God bless you,
Deanna Aikman for Our Lady of Guadalupe, Inc.
