Fr. Pavone to thank US Bishops at Proudly Prolife Banquet Tonight

The National Right to Life Committee will honor the director of Priests for Life tonight by presenting him with the Proudly Pro-Life Award. This is the most prestigious award in the pro-life movement in the United States.

A key aspect of the evening will be to remember the late Cardinal John O'Connor, a hero to pro-life people everywhere, and a mentor to Fr. Pavone. Cardinal O'Connor ordained Fr. Pavone to the priesthood, and also gave him the authorization to become the first full-time director of Priests for Life. A special video tribute to the Cardinal will be shown at the banquet, and Fr. Pavone will express special thanks for the leadership of the Cardinal.

Fr. Pavone will also express gratitude to the United States bishops for their leadership on the abortion issue. In particular, their teaching about the responsibilities of Catholics in the voting booth to build the Culture of Life, as expressed in the 1998 document "Living the Gospel of Life," has been a centerpiece of the educational efforts of Priests for Life to help people prepare for the elections of last year. The work of Priests for Life in that election is one of the reasons that this award is being given to Fr. Pavone tonight.
