Priests for Life Growth Continues Nationally and Internationally
"There is a charism in the Church today for full-time pro-life work," Fr. Frank Pavone said today from Rome, "and it is seeking a concrete, visible expression within the Church."
Fr. Pavone made this point as he was in the midst of training a new full-time Priests for Life priest, Fr. Peter West, along with a new full-time staff member in Rome.
Fr. West is in Rome for two weeks in order to have intensive meetings with Fr. Pavone regarding the work to be done in traveling the United States and presenting the Priests for Life message to clergy and laity alike. "I was privileged to travel to every one of the 50 states in this pro-life mission. Many people said my talks give them inspiration. They have no idea how much more inspiration I received and continue to receive from them! I look forward to my return visit to the US this summer, when I will travel non-stop to many of those states again. I am also delighted that together with Fr. Richard Hogan, who has taken my travel schedule while I have been in Rome, we have welcomed Fr. West and will soon welcome yet another full time priest."
Likewise joining the Priests for Life staff are two new individuals in the Staten Island office, from which most of the United States projects are coordinated.
But there is a difference in the current staff changes from what has been done in the past, and it reflects a growing conviction in Priests for Life circles. "We have been making deliberate moves in our planning over the past year to begin providing for those priests who, with the permission of their bishops, can dedicate themselves to a year or more of full-time pro-life work. Priests need other priests to give them intensive training regarding the pro-life movement and strategies that work. We are equipped and ready to provide that service, just as we have from the beginning, but now on a wider scale," Fr. Frank commented.
"This trend will only increase, because I cannot begin to count the number of young men who have contacted me and expressed and interest in becoming priests and doing full-time pro-life work. They want to find some form of apostolic society or even religious order of men dedicated to ministering to the preborn, their parents, and to the pro-life movement. Priests for Life clearly is the association within the Church which at the present time has both the charism and the experience to be the seedbed for such a new initiative. We are ready to do whatever the Lord and the Church indicate should be done in this regard, and I am interested in hearing peoples' reaction to this idea."
