Elections 2008: What
You Can Do

Many resources and activities are available year round at our election website, In particular we recommend:

Homily hints, bulletin inserts, and links for your parish website are all at our election website.

Parish voter registration – Help those not yet registered to register at Church! See our website for details on how to do this. In particular, ministry to the homebound can include helping such parishioners to register, especially if they have moved, and then, during voting season, to obtain and prepare their absentee ballots if they will not be able to get to the polls.

Get out the vote – If your state has “early voting,” give your
parishioners the details regarding how to utilize that option, as this increases the number of those who will actually vote.

Study Sessions: Equip your parish with the teachings of the Church regarding political responsibility by offering study groups based on the US Bishops’ document Living the Gospel of Life. The study guide is available online on our election website.

Legal issues: In this election season, the James Madison Center for Free Speech ( ) and the Alliance Defense Fund ( will respond free of charge to inquiries by churches, pastors, and priests on permissible political activities. On our website, you will also see links to various legal guidance, including from the USCCB.
