I buried my loss
I found myself recently divorced and pregnant at age 37 with two children I
was responsible for supporting. A friend of mine went with me to the clinic.
My abortion took place about six weeks into my pregnancy. I did not
experience a lot of physical pain, however, emotionally I was numb and yet at
the same time relieved of the shame, nausea and guilt that this unwanted
pregnancy carried with it.
My abortion affected me in that I hemorrhaged on my way home from the clinic
which I believe today could have been very serious as it was a secret and I was
alone that weekend. I buried my loss and not until about four years later did it
erupt to leave me with a loss that is and will always be a state of mourning in
What I did was to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and to accept His
forgiveness for my sin. I also got involved actively with pro-life activities. I
joined WEBA and am active in sharing my testimony and the pro-life message and
helping other hurting women.
My abortion changed my life as I was liberal and lukewarm in my stand on life
issues. Today I am totally committed to the sanctity of all life -
young and old - realizing it is a gift from God deserving of tremendous
reverence and respect no matter how the circumstances appear to the world's or
man's eye or point of view.
