Priests for Life Affirms Stand of
Bishop Raymond Burke
Regarding Abortion Supporters
Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life and President
of the National Pro-life Religious Council, expressed gratitude today to Bishop
Raymond Burke for the pastoral letter he wrote
On the Dignity of Human Life and Civic Responsibility, and for the "Notification"
he issued to Catholic legislators who support abortion and euthanasia,
instructing them not to receive Communion.
"Communion means union with Jesus, and with his teachings. To permit
the killing of children contradicts everything Jesus taught. Bishop Burke is
simply calling for consistency," Fr. Pavone explained.
Responding to the comment of Democratic State Senator Julie Lassa that she
would not allow religion to decide how she serves her constituents, Fr. Pavone
said, "Read the medical texts on how abortions are done. They use the words
dismemberment and decapitation. Abortion is violence. It's not just
religion that tells us to oppose it; it's human decency."
Priests for Life is conducting an intense effort this year to challenge
candidates and voters to see abortion as the primary electoral issue. For more
