Priests for Life Applauds Passage of Unborn Victims of Violence Act in
Senate
Priests for Life National Director Fr. Frank Pavone released the following
statement this morning in response to the US Senate's action yesterday in
passing the Unborn Victims of Violence Act:
"This victory is another sign that our legal system is experiencing a new
moment of awareness in regard to the unborn child. Our history has been marked
with such moments regarding civil rights, the rights of workers, the rights of
women, and the rights of children. Now we are reaching the "embryonic moment,"
reflected in medicine (with fetal surgery and new imaging techniques), in
popular opinion (with polls showing more people calling themselves pro-life),
and in law (with more recognition given to the status of the unborn child.)
"We are grateful to have a President who will sign this legislation. The
recognition of the unborn child as a second victim of violent federal crimes
will increase the cognitive dissonance created by the fact that abortion permits
the destruction of the very same child. Day by day our culture is being forced
to face this contradiction, and day by day it is being resolved in favor of the
unborn. Our votes this November will help resolve it further."
