National priests' group appalled at outcome of Virginia
abortion regulation bill
Washington, DC- Priests for Life, a national
anti-abortion organization, said today that the people of Virginia should be
fully informed that the Abortion Clinics Regulation and Licensure bill,
which would have increased safety measures for women in Virginia’s abortion
facilities, has died in committee.
"The same story is repeated across the nation," said Fr. Frank
Pavone, national director of Priests for Life. "When commonsense safety measures
are proposed for surgical facilities, these measures enjoy support – unless the
facility is an abortion clinic. Those who oppose such measures are, ironically,
the same people who claim to be 'pro-choice' because they are in favor of
women’s health."
"No matter what our views on abortion, we should be united in
efforts to make medical clinics safe," Fr. Pavone concluded.
