National Priests' group: Court Rulings should
follow Science
Washington, DC - Priests for Life, a national
anti-abortion organization, praised the decision of a Cook County judge who
ruled that a frozen embryo destroyed in a Chicago fertility clinic was a
human being whose parents are entitled to file a wrongful-death lawsuit.
Judge Jeffrey Lawrence II said "a pre-embryo is a 'human being' ... whether
or not it is implanted in its mother's womb."
"Judge Lawrence understands what science has taught for a long
time," said Fr. Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life. "Rulings of
courts should be based on these simple scientific facts. Otherwise, public
policy will be subject to the whims of those who want to exploit human beings by
defining them as less than human."
