Fr. Pavone Commends Louisiana
Committee’s Vote on Fetal Pain
If an unborn baby is anesthetized before
surgery, shouldn’t he be anesthetized before dismemberment?” asks Fr. Frank
Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life. “Louisiana legislators are
to be commended for taking action on fetal pain legislation.”
Fr. Pavone’s remarks are in response to
passage by the Louisiana House’s Health and Welfare Committee of a bill to
ensure that women seeking to abort pregnancies of 20 weeks gestation or more are
offered the option of having their unborn babies anesthetized. The measure
now goes to the full House for consideration.
“We have laws in this nation that regulate the
slaughter of animals, so that it is done in a humane and painless way, yet
children are slaughtered without a thought of their pain. Of course,
children should not be slaughtered at all, and this legislation will also help
us face that fact,” Fr. Pavone concluded.
