Fr. Pavone Comments on Terri Schiavo Anniversary
Amarillo, TX – Fr. Frank Pavone,
National Director of Priests for Life, commented today on the murder of Terri
Schiavo two years ago this day.
He became a familiar figure in
the lengthy ordeal. A friend of Terri’s family, he was one of the few
people on her visitors’ list and therefore able to access her room.
“Terri’s case remains shrouded in
massive ignorance. This was not about end of life decisions or removal of
medical treatment. Nobody is obliged to use every medical treatment to
keep themselves alive. But Terri was neither dying nor on life support,”
Fr. Pavone explained. “She was brain-injured, and therefore some thought
she was disposable. The cause of her death – dehydration – was
deliberately introduced. That’s called killing. While there is such
a thing as a useless treatment, there is no such thing as a useless life.”
