Juanita Bynum's Domestic Abuse Disclosure Brings to Mind Another Form of
Abuse
Says Dr. Alveda King |

Atlanta, GA – Dr. Alveda King, Pastoral Associate of Priests for Life and
niece of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., today said that the story of
alleged domestic abuse suffered by gospel singer and televangelist Juanita Bynum
reminded her of the pain she herself suffered from abortion.
"Hearing of the trauma that Juanita Bynum endured makes me reflect on another
form of abuse that I suffered twice, abortion," said Dr. King. "Both domestic
abuse and abortion are violent attacks on women's God given, natural roles as
wives, mothers, and nurturers. God intends that husbands and wives love and care
for each other and that mothers and fathers love and nurture their children.
Abuse and abortion are contrary to God's will. They are blows not only to the
flesh, but also the spirit."
"The good news, as Sister Juanita already knows, is that there is healing
through Jesus. I know that my own healing, especially the recovery that came
after being victimized by an involuntary abortion, came from the grace and mercy
of God. I pray that women who have also been victimized by the lies of the
abortion industry or threats from husbands, boyfriends, or parents will seek out
groups like Rachel's Vineyard for comfort and renewal, as I did. Love is what
God commands us to do, and love never fails."
