Michigan Legislature Must Correct Governor’s Failure Says National Priest
Leader
For Immediate Release
Date: June 12, 2008
Staten Island, NY – With the announcement today that Gov. Jennifer
Granholm will veto Michigan’s partial-birth abortion ban bill, Fr. Frank
Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, has called upon the state
legislature to override the Governor’s action.
“The first purpose of government is the protection of human life. This
promised veto contradicts that purpose,” Fr. Pavone stated. “Moreover, it
contradicts the responsibility the law has to preserve the proper role of
the physician. When the delivery process is used as a vehicle of killing, it
is no longer clear whether a doctor is an instrument of life or of death.
Michigan legislators have the opportunity to correct this mistake, and I
urge them to do so.”
