New York City- Fr. Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement today praising the courage of a victim of botched "abortion." Melanie Mills revealed her story on a radio station in St. Louis, Missouri, which was met with a lawsuit from abortionist Yogendra Shaw from the Hope Clinic in Granite City, IL. Ms. Mills had not been given a pregnancy test prior to the abortion, only later to realize she was never pregnant; she was suffering from a blighted ovum.

Said Fr. Pavone: "Thank God for the willingness of Melanie Mills to uncover what we know are two common abuses: abortionists doing abortions on people who are not pregnant, and abortionists intimidating women into silence about the malpractice that occurs in legal abortion clinics. We call on women's rights groups to denounce abortionists who exploit women in this way."

So just to confirm if you are diagnosed with a blighted ovum, which means that only a sac developed after the product of conception, and that an embryo never sprouted, then a person is not pregnant and does not have a live baby correct?

-From the above statement it appears that my assumption is correct based on the above article.

-My wife just got diagnosed with a blighted ovum, and has been having spotting on and off, now at 9 weeks, and after 2 physicians confirming no fetus, they are recommending a D&C to prevent infection and other complications and to prepare her for her next pregnancy. I've spent hours researching and calling around to confirm that a blighted ovum is not alive, and could not find anywhere that would permit a catholic to get a D&C in this case.
