Women Share Secret Publicly

Other Women Deserve to Know the Truth

Silent No More Awareness Campaign

1/18/2007

For Immediate Release

Washington, DC – It is one of the most common surgical procedures done on women every day in this country, but rarely do you hear anyone talk about it. Until now! During the last two weeks in January as part of the Roe v. Wade events, women from across the US will tell all, sharing the secret that once controlled their lives. Thousands of women have joined the Silent No More Awareness Campaign and are taking their message to the streets. At more than 21 gatherings from Connecticut to LA and Texas to Minnesota, women are being silent no more.

In one of the most daring developments since abortion was legalized, hundreds of women will stand up and tell the truth about crying in dark closets, becoming infertile, taking drugs, having nightmares, giving up hope - all because of having an abortion.

According to Georgette Forney, Campaign Co-founder, “This is not about abortion politics, it’s about reaching out to people who are struggling after an abortion and don’t know help is available.  It’s also about helping the public understand that reproductive rights aren’t really right for women. Abortion affects us emotionally, physically and spiritually.”

To mark the 5th anniversary of the Campaign, a special full-page “Signature Ad” has been created and placed in newspapers around the country. The ad features the names/signatures of over 400 women who are publicly saying they regret their abortion.

Silent No More’s effectiveness is being seen in an increase of the number of people seeking help through abortion after-care programs. And in October 2006, the American Psychological Association withdrew an official statement denying a link between abortion and psychological harm, while at the same time 15 of Great Britain’s leading obstetricians and psychiatrists penned an open letter to the London Times acknowledging the psychological consequences of abortions. Clearly, women deserve to know the truth about abortion.

Since officially launching the Silent No More Awareness Campaign in 2003, 2100 women and men have shared testimonies at 160 Gatherings that have occurred in 44 states and 5 countries with more than 12,030 spectators having heard the truth about abortion’s negative after-affects.  More than 3,800 people have registered online to be silent no more. The Campaign is sponsored by Anglicans for Life and Priests for Life. Visit www.SilentNoMoreAwareness.org.
