NEW YORK, NY -- Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement after West Virginia Governor Earl Ray vetoed HB 4588, a bill passed by overwhelming majorities of the West Virginia House and Senate earlier this month that would protect children in the womb from painful abortion from 20 weeks of development forward.
“Governor Tomblin has made a profound error in vetoing this legislation. More and more states, as well as the U.S. House of Representatives, are taking the next logical step to bring public policy on abortion more in line with the views of the vast majority of the American public. The Governor is hiding behind legal advisers and concerns about ‘constitutionality’ rather than embracing commonsense and decency by protecting children from painful dismemberment.”
