New episodes this week on “Defending Life” and “The Catholic View for Women”

Priests for Life

NEW YORK, NY -- “Defending Life,” the longest-running and farthest-reaching television series on abortion, and “The Catholic View for Women,” a thought-provoking alternative to secular talk shows, will air new episodes on EWTN beginning this week.

“Defending Life,” which has been a part of the network lineup since 1995, will air at 2:30 a.m. ET on Wednesdays and 11 p.m. ET on Thursdays. “The Catholic View for Women” will return for a fourth season with shows airing at 11 p.m. Wednesdays and 10:30 a.m. Fridays.

Co-hosts Janet Morana, Executive Director of Priests for Life, and Father Denis Wilde, O.S.A., Associate Director, will kick off the 25th season of “Defending Life” with an episode about the importance of the November mid-term elections.

“Pope Francis urged us not to be afraid of ‘making trouble’ in order to advance the Gospel,” said Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life. “What does that say about our approach to elections?”

Future episodes will cover topics including reversing chemical abortions, pro-life successes in closing abortion mills and what it’s like to work for Planned Parenthood. High-profile guests will include Bishop Anthony Fisher, O.P., Bishop of the Diocese of Parramatta, Australia, and Robert Muise, co-founder and senior counsel of the American Freedom Law Center. Muise will discuss the Priests for Life lawsuit against the HHS mandate, which is the lead case of the religious non-profit groups, and the first to have had oral arguments heard on the appellate level. A decision is expected soon.

Muise said this lawsuit “goes to the very core of Priests for Life’s reason for existing as an organization. The ministry is well situated - and perhaps best suited - to challenge the mandate and its application to non-exempt, nonprofit religious organizations.’ ”

The fourth season of the highly rated “The Catholic View for Women” promises controversy, conversion and plenty of Catholic conversation.

EWTN Rome Bureau Chief Joan Lewis will join hosts Astrid Bennett-Gutierrez, Janet Morana and Teresa Tomeo on the first episode for a discussion of two of the Church’s newest saints: Saint John Paul II and Saint John XXIII.

Future episodes will cover topics including care of the elderly and the wisdom we can gain from people in their later years;  Pope Francis and the theology of women, and becoming a “24/7 Catholic.”

Other shows in this new season are sure to ignite controversy. A four-part series will take an in-depth look at the Church’s stance on homosexuality and what Pope Francis really meant when he made his now-famous “Who am I to judge” comment.

“As we have in previous seasons, we try in each of these episodes to emphasize everything you can do as a Catholic, rather than everything you can’t do,” said Mrs. Morana, the executive director of Priests for Life and co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign. “The Catholic Church has so much to offer women, and that’s what we hope to show all of our viewers.”

Referring to “Defending Life,” Father Wilde said: “We know our shows have an impact because people often write to tell us so. One letter, written by a graduate student at Purdue University, said the show ‘has inspired me to become more proactive in my pro-life efforts’ and the young woman thanked Priests for Life for ‘informing me about the awful truth of abortion, and for encouraging me to speak out against this injustice.’ “

Priests for Life urges viewers to promote the show to parishes and pro-life organizations.
