Priests for Life to honor the unborn at National Day of Remembrance

Priests for Life

NEW YORK -- The Priests for Life pastoral team will honor babies lost to abortion during the third annual National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children this weekend. The event was founded by Priests for Life, Pro-life Action League, and Citizens for a Pro-life Society. See
The Day of Remembrance also launches a week of prayer and fasting (September 12-20) to end abortion and the evils of Planned Parenthood (
The coast-to-coast services at gravesites and memorials take on added significance this year in light of the scandal of Planned Parenthood's harvesting and sale of baby body parts.
“Most of the babies buried in these gravesites across the country were recovered after their bodies had been illegally disposed,” said Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life and author of Abolishing Abortion. “In many cases, pro-life people who attended the funerals and burials had the opportunity to give some honor to these bodies, which had been so dishonored in the abortion clinic.”
Father Pavone said it’s more important than ever for pro-lifers to attend these nationwide services because America’s awareness of what happens to children after abortion has been heightened and the memorial will underscore the point that these babies are human beings who have been subjected to numerous indignities, beginning with their brutal murders.
Father Pavone will speak Saturday, Sept. 12, at the 30th anniversary service for more than 16,000 babies buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Los Angeles. The babies were discovered in a locked storage container and were the subject of a three-year court battle between pro-lifers who wanted to honor them with a burial and abortion advocates who wanted them disposed as medical waste, thus stripping them of their humanity. The babies finally were buried in 1985.
The service at the Odd Fellows Cemetery is sponsored by the Silent No More Awareness Campaign and Foot Soldiers for Life, and will begin at 10 a.m. PT. A Spanish service will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 13.
Father Denis Wilde, OSA, associate director of Priests for Life, will deliver the keynote address at  the Ocean County Memorial Park Cemetery in Toms River, N.J., where 100 babies are buried. The service   will begin at 10 a.m. ET.
Priests for Life Youth Director Bryan Kemper will speak at the gravesite for six babies at Woodland Cemetery in  Dayton, Ohio, at noon ET on Saturday.
Father Stephen Imbarrato will lead the service at the Tomb of the Unborn Child at Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell, Conn., at 4 p.m. Friday.
Priests for Life, Citizens for a Pro-Life Society and the Pro-Life Action League sponsor the annual National Day of Remembrance.
“As we work to defund the abortion industry and to pass laws on the state and federal level that protect children living in the womb, it is only right -- and a natural aspect of a culture of life -- that we honor and mourn the over 56 million children who already have died in this American holocaust, and be present to those who have been buried,” Fr. Pavone added.
The prayer campaign that also begins on Saturday asks Churches to incorporate specific prayer intentions into their worship services, and urge their members to pray individually and in their families, for and end to abortion and the evils of Planned Parenthood. Specific prayers are offered at that focus on the conversion of abortionists, the healing of those who have had abortions, and the strengthening of public officials.

Fr. Frank also announced that in Philadelphia, the memorial service for the babies killed by Kermit Gosnell will be held on Saturday, October 24. The date of that service was moved due to the Pope's upcoming visit to Philadelphia.
