Priests for Life Announces Plans for 2016

Elections and Continued Growth Mark Approach of 25th Anniversary

Priests for Life

ORLANDO, FL - The Administration of Priests for Life, meeting in Florida for its annual strategic conference, announced initial plans today for the year 2016, emphasizing its role in the upcoming elections and clarifying the structure of its organization.
"In the year 2016, Priests for Life will reach the 25th anniversary of its initial founding," explained National Director Fr. Frank Pavone. "We have changed a lot in that time, adapting to the needs of the pro-life movement and serving those who are committed to it."
One of those key needs, as the Administrative team discussed, is the elections.
"Priests for Life has played a major role in our federal elections since the year 2000," Fr. Frank stated, "and this year that role will surpass anything we have seen in the past. We will educate and mobilize voters, and we will urge Churches to rise above the self-censorship that comes from the baseless fear of losing our tax-exempt status."
Fr. Frank's new book, Abolishing Abortion, takes aims at the myths behind that fear, and will be a key educational tool in this election cycle.
"We are also using the occasion of our upcoming anniversary to review our history and clarify the current structure of our organization," Fr. Frank said. The Administrative team is preparing a "25-year report" which will describe how the ministry has grown and diversified over the years.”
The report quotes a May 2015 letter from Priests for Life advisor Cardinal Renato Martino in which he states,
"At the inception of Priests for Life in 1991, when it was given recognition as a Catholic Association of the Faithful, it was a relatively small apostolate focused within the United States on assisting priests to proclaim the Gospel of Life.
"Since then it has grown and diversified into an entire family of ministries, and an international apostolate. While continuing to be faithful to your original vision of assisting and training the clergy, you have sought to follow the Spirit's lead and respond to the needs of the pro-life movement, and therefore have integrated into your ministry the work of Rachel's Vineyard, Silent No More, the Youth Outreach of Stand True, outreach to Hispanic and African-American communities, and much more." (See full text of the Cardinal's letter.)
As a result, Priests for Life has outgrown the statutes of the private association that was recognized in 1991. Now, instead, it has the same status as Catholic apostolates like EWTN and the Knights of Columbus, which are obviously committed to Catholic teaching but are not in the canonical category of associations of the faithful.
As part of the continued growth of Priests for Life, the Administrative team also announced that Executive Director Janet Morana has just been elected by the International Hope Alive Counselors' Association (IHACA) to its board of directors as its secretary. IHACA is an international organization of counselors who specialize in healing the wounds of child abuse, neglect, and abortion.
"Priests for Life has worked closely with IHACA and its founder, Dr. Philip Ney, since the 1990's," Janet explained, "and this partnership enriches the extensive work Priests for Life does in post-abortion healing, a work that takes on special significance as we prepare for the Jubilee Year of Mercy."
