“Women don’t deserve to die”

NEW YORK -- Janet Morana, Executive Director of Priests for Life and co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to rule on Texas abortion regulations.

“It’s great news that the Supreme Court will hear the Texas abortion case because it is well past time that Americans know exactly what goes on in so many abortion clinics across the country. They do not operate like any other surgical facility, and abortionists do not have to meet the same standards that every other physician does. Until we see an end to abortion, we need to protect women who make this choice.”

Mrs. Morana pointed to two high-profile cases in which women who might have been saved after botched abortions died because emergency rescue workers couldn’t get to them.

In Hyannis, MA, in 2007, Laura Hope Smith was administered the powerful anesthetic Propofol and then left in the care of an office worker with no medical training. When an ambulance was finally called, rescue workers had to move her into a hallway because the abortion room was no bigger than a closet.

In 2009 in Philadelphia, Karnamaya Mongar died after a botched abortion at the hands of abortionist Kermit Gosnell, now serving a life sentence in prison. Paramedics had to make their way through a maze of rooms before finding the patient in cardiac arrest.

“Women deserve better than abortion,” Mrs. Morana said, “but if they do make this terrible choice, women don’t deserve to die.”
