Fr. Pavone: Kansas constitution does not contain ‘right’ to dismember babies

Priests for Life

12/10/2015

NEW YORK  – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today commented on the Kansas Court of Appeals hearing where oral arguments were presented on a first-of-its-kind state law banning dismemberment abortions.

“Dismembering an unborn child is not a matter of privacy,” said Fr. Pavone.  “It’s a matter of cruelty that reflects a callous disregard for human life.  The Kansas Court of Appeals should reject the arguments of abortion businesses who claim that they have a right literally to tear a baby limb from limb.”

At issue in the hearing was a Kansas law forbidding the use of clamps, scissors, forceps, or other instruments to abort a living unborn child.  Such instruments are usually used in second trimester abortions.  The court session is believed to be the first time in over 25 years that all 14 members of the state Court of Appeals have met to hear a case.

“The abortion lobby makes the absurd claim that the Kansas constitution guarantees a ‘right’ to dismemberment abortions.  A plain reading of history, though, shows that the Kansas legislature outlawed abortions only nine years after the state constitution was approved and that the abortion ban stood for over 100 years while the Kansas constitution was in force.  The abortionists’ argument makes no sense; then again, what argument could possibly justify torturing little children to death?”

Priests for Life and the National Pro-life Religious Council will honor Governor Sam Brownback and the lawmakers and people of Kansas for being the first to enact a law of this kind protecting children from dismemberment abortions. The award will be given on the day of the National March for Life in Washington D.C. at an interdenominational prayer service to take place from 8:30 to 10:30 in DAR Constitution Hall. See www.NationalPrayerService.com for details.
