Fr. Pavone: 2016 voters also selecting SCOTUS justices

Priests for Life

2/1/2016

NEW YORK  –  Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today encouraged voters in the states of Iowa and New Hampshire to lead the way in shaping this election year by their active participation in their states’ presidential primary caucuses and election.

“The Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary not only begin the process of selecting the next President, they also begin the process of selecting the next Supreme Court justices,” said Fr. Pavone.  “It’s important for voters to remember that the next President might appoint up to four new justices to the nation’s highest court, enough to shape abortion law for generations to come.  It’s impossible to overstate the importance of this election.”

Iowans will kick off the presidential voting season at their party caucuses tonight, while New Hampshire voters will go to the polls on February 9 for the first-in-the-nation presidential primary.  It has been noted that because four current Supreme Court justices will be over 77 years old when the next president is sworn into office, whoever wins the presidency in 2016 could completely reshape the nation’s highest court.

“Voters will decide this week and this year who will lead our country for the next four or, if that person is re-elected, eight years,” added Fr. Pavone.  “That president will have in his or her hands the power to pick the justices who will likely decide whether abortion on demand continues for the next 30 or 40 years.  We will be voting not just for our own futures, but for those of millions of unborn children as well.”

Given that fact, Priests for Life is leading a coalition of organizations in a major prayer campaign, and urging individuals, families, organizations and parishes to participate by using the prayer at www.ElectionPrayer.com.

Priests for Life is the nation's largest Catholic pro-life organization dedicated to ending abortion and euthanasia. For more information, visit www.priestsforlife.org.
