Fr. Pavone praises Indiana lawmakers for protecting unborn children

Priests for Life

NEW YORK – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today praised Indiana Governor Mike Pence for signing into law legislation that protects babies from abortions performed because of their race, sex, or disability.  The bill also requires that the remains of aborted or miscarried children be interred or cremated.
“I came to know Governor Pence personally when he served in the U.S. House of Representatives, and he proved himself to be a strong defender of the most vulnerable among us, the unborn. He has continued that stellar example in his term as governor of Indiana. He, and the Indiana legislature, have honored justice and served the public by establishing these protections,” Fr. Pavone said.

“If already-born people are killed because of their race, sex, or disability, we call them victims of hate crimes,” said Fr. Pavone.  “This law is just a logical extension of civil rights measures that protect us against discrimination.

With Governor Pence’s signature, Indiana becomes the second state to protect from abortion babies diagnosed with disabilities such as Down syndrome.

In addition, the state will now require the humane disposal of fetal remains.

“I have had the honor of conducting local and national funeral services for babies who were killed by abortion, or who died naturally. Such children deserve the same respect as any of us,” added Fr. Pavone.  “No one should be buried with litter in a landfill.”
