Priests for Life, Silent No More protest Georgetown invitation to Planned Parenthood leader

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Priests for Life Pastoral Associate Father Stephen Imbarrato and representatives of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign are at Georgetown University today, protesting the Catholic university’s invitation to have Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards address students this afternoon.

“The philosophy and activity of Planned Parenthood – from providing contraceptives to performing more than one-third of the nation’s abortions – are completely contrary to Catholic teaching,” Father Imbarrato said. “Parents who pay tens of thousands of dollars to send their children to a Catholic school should know what Georgetown’s administration allows to happen on campus. Parents should also know that I was informed I am not welcome on campus if I plan to protest today.”

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, added: “It’s ironic that while a hearing is taking place in Congress today to determine if Planned Parenthood has profited illegally from the sale of baby parts, the woman who leads this corrupt organization is welcomed with open arms at a Catholic institution. As I point out in  my book Abolishing Abortion, there is a serious disconnect regarding this issue, both in the state and in the Church.”

Father Imbarrato acknowledged that Georgetown Right to Life worked hard this week, designated as Life Week, to make sure students understand the pro-life position and the truth about Planned Parenthood.
