Fr. Pavone calls for Senate Republicans to “act like winners” and invoke “Reid rule”

Priests for Life

Staten Island, NY – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, said today that it’s time for Senate Republicans to “act like winners” and confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court this week.

“Last December, former Senator Harry Reid said that completely doing away with the filibuster would be a good thing.  For once, I agree with the former Senate Majority Leader,” said Fr. Pavone.  “It’s time for Republicans in the Senate to act like the winners they are and extend the Reid Rule so that the majority rules on Supreme Court nominations.”

In an interview shortly before his retirement, former Senator Reid told Politico that “it’s just a question of when” as to whether the Senate filibuster rule will be abandoned.  He added, “You can’t have a democracy decided by 60 out of 100, and that’s why changing the rules is one of the best things that has happened to America in a long time.”

“It’s time to end the gridlock,” stated Fr. Pavone.  “The American people decided last November that President Donald Trump and a Republican majority, not Senate leftists, should decide who sits on the Supreme Court.  Let’s respect their decision.”
