Fr. Pavone issues challenge to 10 Red State Democrat senators: Tell your constituents whether you’ll vote to protect babies from painful abortion

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, has issued a challenge to Democratic senators up for re-election in 10 Red States:

“The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act is before the Senate and I am asking these senators to take a stand for life,” Father Pavone said. “This bill would protect from abortion babies who can feel pain from 20 weeks of development and beyond. I want to make sure these senators, who are serving in states carried by President Trump in 2016, understand that their constituents are watching.”

Priests for Life wrote an open letter to the seven senators who, based on their voting record, do not even want the Senate to consider the bill. The letter demands to know how the seven – Florida Sen. Bill Nelson; Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow; Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill; Montana Sen. Jon Tester; North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp; Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown, and Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin – will vote in this session of Congress.

“We would like to know whether you will vote to allow the bill to be considered on the Senate floor and, more importantly, whether you will vote to approve it,” the letter reads. “The above questions are not difficult. Either you are willing to protect children from excruciatingly painful dismemberment in the womb at five, six, seven, eight, or nine months into pregnancy – or you are not. Frankly, if you can’t or won’t answer these simple questions, why are you even in public office?”

To the three senators who have voted in the past to bring the bill to the floor – Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey; West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin and Indiana Sen. Joe Donnelly -- Father Pavone wrote:

“We, your undersigned constituents, and other concerned citizens, respectfully request that you tell us whether you will vote once again to invoke cloture and allow the measure to be brought to the floor. Further, please tell us if you will vote to pass this legislation this session should you have the opportunity.”

For the last several months, Priests for Life and Abortion Free New Mexico have been releasing undercover audio of calls made to abortion businesses around the country. Pro-life activist Tara Shaver, posing as a healthy mom, has been able to schedule abortions for healthy babies from 20 to 32 weeks. Abortion workers are so nonchalant about this request that it’s clear these abortions are not rare and are not performed only on women whose lives are imperiled or whose babies are sick.

“The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act would end this kind of killing, in most cases,” Father Pavone said. “What we want the senators in these targeted 10 states to realize is that their constituents, like most Americans, oppose late-term abortion and they want their elected officials to vote to end this practice.”
