TROY, OHIO - Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, and Bryan Kemper, Youth Outreach Director, today reacted to news that a federal appeals court has cleared the way for the state to defund Planned Parenthood.

“Any day that the nation’s largest abortion seller loses taxpayer money is a good day,” Father Pavone said. “The 6th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals has ruled that defunding Planned Parenthood does not place an ‘undue burden’ on mothers seeking to abort their children. But it will prevent some of taxpayers’ hard-earned money from paying for those abortions.”

Kemper, a resident of Troy, Ohio, said he was proud that his state had taken the initiative to defund the abortion giant and that its efforts have been upheld in court.

“It’s great to be pro-life in Ohio today,” Kemper said. “But this is just a small skirmish in a much bigger war. We will keep fighting until we end legal abortion in this country.”

Writing for the majority in the 11-6 decision, Judge Jeffrey Sutton wrote: “Private organizations do not have a constitutional right to obtain governmental funding to support their activities. The State also may choose not to subsidize constitutionally protected activities. Just as it has no obligation to provide a platform for an individual’s free speech ... it has no obligation to pay for a woman’s abortion.”

Priests for Life is the nation's largest Catholic pro-life organization dedicated to ending abortion and euthanasia. For more information, visit www.priestsforlife.org.
