Early Voting in MASSACHUSETTS
In person - A registered voter may vote early in person if he will be
away from his city or town on Election Day, has a disability that prevents him
from voting at the polls, or cannot vote on Election Day due to religious
beliefs. The voter should contact his local Clerk or Election Commission
approximately three weeks before the election to see if ballots are available;
if they are available, he may apply for an absentee ballot and vote in the same
visit to his local Clerk or Election Commission office in the city or town hall.
The deadline for applications for absentee ballots is the day before the
election, but it is recommended that early in person voting take place two to
three weeks before the election. A directory of city and town halls is available
at
www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/eleclk/clkidx.htm.
By mail - A registered voter may vote in advance by mail if he will be
away from his city or town on Election Day, has a disability that prevents him
from voting at the polls, or cannot vote on Election Day due to religious
beliefs. The voter may obtain an application for an absentee ballot from his
local election office or by downloading one at
www.sec.state.ma.us/ELE/elepdf/absbalap.pdf (PDF format). The
application must be received by the voter's local city or town hall by noon, the
day before the election. A directory of city or town halls is available at
www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/eleclk/clkidx.htm.
