Back Natalie's Story Natalie   In December 2011 I was feeling very sick and being sick but didn't know why. At forty-four years old pregnancy never occurred to me at all.   After Christmas I went to see my GP and he suggested an immediate blood test, so this was done and early the next morning he rang me to break the news that I was indeed pregnant.  He said my partner and I should go in and see him that morning.  The GP explained that with both our health problems he didn't think it would be safe for me to go ahead with the pregnancy (I have hydrocephalus and my partner had hippocampal sclerosis).    By the time I got in for a scan they said I was twelve weeks and two days so I would have to go for the abortion in [another town] as the [where I live] limit is twelve weeks.  [The other town] is quite a long way from [where we live] and we had to get hospital transport as we cannot drive due to our illnesses. On the first visit for "the tablet" I was not sure enough to take it so had to go back home and return the day after.  Then I took "the tablet" and was told to return two days later. This I did but still had to have a further three attempts to pass the fetus and by the time the fetus was passed it was full length, with a head the size of an alien, fully formed fingers and toes. Very painful all the same!  But the placenta had remained inside so they rushed me to theatre to remove it under general anesthetic in the middle of the night. Back
