One Baby at a Time

I had a co-worker whom I am friends with and one day she came up to me in tears telling me she didn't know what to do.  I asked her what was wrong and what happened and she told me she was pregnant and alone.  She told me her parents were upset with her and didn't want to talk to her and hadn't since she broke the news and that the man who got her pregnant didn't want the baby and wanted to pay her to have an abortion. I remember telling her that this baby was a special gift and a blessing for her.  She cried on saying how she had no support and I told her that she had her friends here at work and that she had these wonderful resources through our workplace including access to a counesllor to help guide her on the road to motherhood.  I told her that her parents would come around but to give them a little bit of time as they were shocked by the news and may not have reacted the way they intended to.  She told me that the man who got her pregnant was trying to force her to have an abortion.  I told her about the effects of abortion, I told her stories I had read on Priests for Life and that she too could access them and read them.  I told her that it didn't matter what that man wanted or thought tha this was her child and her blessing and that she could raise this child with or without a man.  I prayed for her and asked that she would make the right decision.  A few days later she told me she was keeping him.  A few weeks after her son was born she brought him in with her mother, she told me that I was right that her family came around and was now there for her supporting her. When I looked at this innocent small child and touched his feet my eyes filled with tears - this was the child that I helped save.  I hope that this serves as a reminder for anyone who reads this that we can make a difference one child at a time.
