Alveda King on The Blaze with Glenn Beck

Friday, June 28th, 2013

Recently I was invited to be on The Blaze with Glenn Beck to discuss my uncle, Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights movement and the need for a Civil Rights movement in the 21st century.

During the show (not mentioned in this clip) Glenn said that he doesn’t like to deal with the abortion issue. He says it makes it uncomfortable, but when God told him that if he doesn’t deal with how wrong abortion is, God will get someone else to do it. I will post that clip and others as they become available.

Enjoy this clip from the show!

Pelosi Question Bubble

Fr. Frank Pavone is highly respected for his dedication to the unborn and his determination to fight to end abortion. I am truly grateful that he is not afraid to speak the truth and challenge those that would spread lies.

That is why I’m not afraid to stand with Father Pavone in his latest #LetterToNancy campaign at LetterToNancy.com.

This campaign is really about a whole lot more that simply challenging one politician. It’s really about everyone in America and around the world answering the same question that Mrs. Pelosi is being asked but refuses to answer: “What is the moral difference between what Dr. Gosnell did to a baby born alive at 23 weeks and aborting her moments before birth?”

It’s also bigger than Catholicism or any other religion. It’s about all people everywhere and the belief that life is sacred.

Just as we wish to protect our born children from predators and abuse because they are vulnerable, we must also protect the most vulnerable, those in the womb. They are human beings too and should be protected by law.

The question asked of Mrs. Pelosi was about a 23 week old baby who had ten fingers, ten toes, a beating heart, lungs, eyes, ears, mouth, and a nose. And certainly this baby deserves protection. But I say to you that at 4 months, at 2 months, at 25 days, at 10 days, at conception all those features were already programmed into the DNA and as such was already a human being demanding protection.

So as you ponder the question, don’t be afraid to ask the same question of your Pastor, your friends, your family.

The answer is simply really.

There is no difference between aborting a baby moments before birth and what Gosnell did and a host of other abortionists are doing in abortion mills across this country.

It’s time for the 21st Century Civil Rights Movement to go to the next level. It’s time we Abolish Abortion!

Why Won’t Nancy Pelosi Listen?

Wednesday, June 26th, 2013

pelosi_and_pavone_300

First, Father Frank Pavone, thank you for having the heart to reach out to Mrs. Nancy Pelosi to remind her of the position of the Catholic Church on the sanctity of life. She says that she is a responsible and respectful Catholic, so maybe she just hasn’t had time to remember the teachings of the Church. How can she say that she is a practicing Catholic when she admits her faith doesn’t line up with the teachings of the church? I pray that thousands will sign on to your open letter to Mrs. Pelosi, and demand some answers to the hard questions you are asking her.

My question is this? Why won’t she listen to the cries of the babies and their mothers who keep dying from abortions? Does she really not care that women and babies are suffering great pain and dying from so called legal abortions? In RECALL ABORTION, Janet Morana tells about all of the dangers that mothers may not even know about when they are considering abortion. After an abortion, the babies usually end up dead, and sometimes mothers die too. Why won’t Nancy Pelosi listen?

Yesterday, Glenn Beck and I were discussing abortion on The Blaze. Glenn tends to just speak from his heart and admit his shortcomings, which is hard to do for most of us. Glenn said that he doesn’t like to deal with the abortion issue. He says it makes it uncomfortable, but when God told him that if he doesn’t deal with how wrong abortion is, God will get someone else to do it. I got the strong impression that Glenn is more uncomfortable with letting God down than not talking about abortion. And as you know, since you are right on the firing line all the time, we need help! We need many more people to join you and address Mrs. Pelosi and everyone else who is avoiding the uncomfortable truth that abortion hurts women and kills babies and sometimes their mothers. I’ll be helping tomorrow during the Tweetfest and I hope others will join in to demand that Mrs. Pelosi answer the questions.

Our friend Kevin Burke keeps telling people about how abortion hurts fathers too, how they regret their lost fatherhood. His blog today is so very compelling. I’m glad that he shared the Flypsyde testimony, and there’ the mention of a trip to California with some of the authors of LIFE AT ALL COSTS. By the way, it is such a blessing for Kevin, me and all the Priests for Life Associates, staff and well wishers to join you in this constant battle for life.

Finally I’ll close after this last news note before this blog begins to sound like a rant. My youngest sons, young men in their early twenties, have been following the Trayvon Martin murder and George Zimmerman’s trial. You may recall that I once said that Trayvon’s death was a “late, late term abortion because he was killed in the prime of life. Too many young people are dying today, the youngest being the babies in the womb.

I know that there are many civil rights battles going on right now, and I am very grateful that people are paying attention to everything from love and marriage, who has the right to vote, who will be able to go to college, how should we treat immigrants, who can have a job and so many other issues. However, I join you in working harder to keep the truth about abortion and the painful impact it has on our families and communities before Mrs. Pelosi and indeed all of our leaders, be they spiritual or political.

Pelosi Admits Her Position is Not Catholic

Former House Speaker Attacks Priests for Life and Fr. Frank Pavone

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Rather than answer the simple question as to what is the moral difference between killing a baby outside the womb or inside the womb, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has criticized Priests for Life, and its National Director, Fr. Frank Pavone, for raising the issue in an open letter, calling them arrogant, medieval, hysterical, and disconnected from the Church.

Fr. Pavone said: “I would like to know if Mrs. Pelosi, in her charges that we are arrogant, medieval, and hysterical, intends to include the more than 14,000 people (and counting) who signed onto my open letter to her in just the past few days. Rather than resorting to name-calling, she should answer the question all of us have raised. In refusing to answer this question, and instead choosing to criticize the messenger and then assert her own version of Catholicism, Mrs. Pelosi repeats the same display of avoidance and inconsistency as she exhibited at the June 13 press briefing that prompted my letter in the first place. Continuing to support dismemberment abortion, and refusing to explain its distinction from murder, she has disconnected herself from both faith and reason. Priests for Life will not allow this to go unchallenged.”

As for her assertion that she might pay attention to a more intellectual letter, Fr. Pavone responded: “The beginning of an intellectual approach to this discussion is to answer the simple question that started the discussion. Mrs. Pelosi refuses to take that first step.”

Fr. Pavone’s open letter, at LetterToNancy.com, continues to receive thousands of adherents each day from across the country.

In her interview with ThinkProgress earlier this week, Mrs. Pelosi said, “I grant the Church where they are on abortion. That’s where they are, that’s where they have to be. But my faith isn’t about what their position is.”

Fr. Pavone responded: “The beautiful thing about Catholic Faith is that it is not some kind of mysterious knowledge available only to elites or to the person holding it. Rather, it can be plainly understood by prince and pauper, young and old, educated and illiterate. We can all recognize when it is embraced and when it is rejected. Mrs. Pelosi has clearly rejected it, stating again that her faith is not what the Church teaches.

“We don’t need to consult the Catechism to know that terrorism is wrong – reason makes this plain,” added Fr. Pavone. “And yet, those who flew airplanes into our buildings were, all the while, professing their faith. You also don’t need to know theology or be a priest to conclude that tearing a baby apart limb by limb is wrong – reason likewise makes this clear. Yet, Nancy Pelosi has done it again – she’s trying to use faith talk to escape what both reason and Catholicism teach about abortion, and to escape answering the simple question, ‘What is the moral difference between killing a premature newborn and aborting a baby?’”

God Can Change Racist’s and Abortionist’s Hearts

Monday, June 24th, 2013

130624 blog image

Praise GOD! I will be a Wall of HOLY GHOST FIRE ALL AROUND YOU SAITH THE LORD. Zechariah 2:5. Shout Alleluia if you believe!!!

In a recent correspondence with my friend Day Gardner, we are remarking on what God is doing to stir up the faithful. As the battle for life rages, we are praying for more victories. The news is encouraging! Please allow me to share some of our exchange with you.

Yes Day, the Holy Ghost Fire keeps raining on us! For example, as Father Frank Pavone continues to call leaders, laypersons and people at large to attention as seen on Fox News, we are sure to see more and more courage enacted from our spiritual leaders. In an open letter he is calling out House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with the world watching. Watch the Fox & Friends video HERE.

Remember our challenge to former Speaker Pelosi a while back? How Nancy Pelosi literally ran from us when she saw us sitting on the front row of the ceremony that day!

As to Father Terry, and you, Dr. Johnny and Pastor Broden, I say rain on. Wish I could have been there with you to help slay the three headed beast of racism, reproductive genocide and sexual perversion.

I saw Fr. Terry’s passion in the pictures from the press conference, and I applaud him for his dedication to the unborn. I also understand that Cardinal DiNardo is a defender of the unborn himself. So in keeping with the philosophy of encouraging all pro-lifers to remember that while methods may differ we are all in the same battle, let’s pray for them both. We need them and we all need each other.

By the way Day, on their radio show this week, our colleagues Wil and Meeke Addison asked for a take on the latest Paula Deen story about alleged racist remarks. I explained how I learned a long time ago when racist Governor George Wallace had a change of heart that since all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory, there is room at the cross for everyone. I met Paula by the way, and she and her family were very gracious and down to earth that day.

Did I ever tell you about how God moved on the heart of the Georgia Legislature to pass the King Holiday Bill? I only bring this up to remind us that God can use us to help prick the ice and change the hearts of racists and yes, abortionists.

Georgia House Speaker Tom Murphy (2nd from right) with (left to right) Mrs. Alveda King Beal (state rep. 28th Dist.), Rev. Martin L. King Senior, Dr. Benjamin Mayes, and Coretta Scott King. They game to try to persuade Murphy to declare Martin Luther King. Jr. Birthday a state holiday. He said no. Photo taken January 8, 1979. (BILL MAHAN/AJC staff)

They game to try to persuade Murphy to declare Martin Luther King. Jr. Birthday a state holiday. He said no. Photo taken January 8, 1979. (BILL MAHAN/AJC staff)

When I was a State Legislator in Georgia from the 28th House District in the 70’s and 80’s, I was told that the MLK Holiday Bill couldn’t pass, and would never come out of committee to the floor. Hosea Williams and I were the primary sponsors of the Bill. I wasn’t even born again back then, but I was a bit like David I guess, and a bit like my Dad A. D. and Uncle M. L. in that I knew that God was bigger than those legislators and officials. When my colleagues balled up the copies of the bill, threw them in spittoons and spit tobacco juice on them in front of my face, I forgave them and kept praying. I asked my granddaddy, Daddy King and Aunt Coretta to come to the Capitol for a visit. Finally after much prayer, I requested a private meeting with House Speaker Tom Murphy; considered by some to be a noted segregationist/racist at one time in Georgia’s history. The meeting was miraculously granted, and as I sat before him in tears actually, (I was young back then, and cried more easily than I do today) I asked him to explain why his stance was fair. He said something like, “Miss Alveda, I can’t promise you that the bill will pass, but it will go to the floor.” The bill went to the floor and the rest is history.

Can I take credit for the passage of the Bill? Can any human? Of course not. It was an act of GOD! As in the case of Rosa Parks, MLK, and any servant of God, our Creator could have used a rock or a donkey/ass to deliver His message; whether it be to end racism or abortion or even the stand for natural procreative marriage. It just takes faith, love and obedience to be used as a “voice crying out in the wilderness.”

So my friends, I hope you’ve enjoyed what a conversation between pro-life friends looks and sounds like. Day and I are in this fight together as we all are. While we don’t always agree, we always agree to listen, pray and love each other. We often say that we shall overcome abortion as in the Spirit of God, we pray for Rain and continue to march on until victory is won!

Stand Up, Stand Down

130621 blog image

We have prayed, we have acted. God has allowed a historical bill to pass. Yes! GOD has allowed this! Give God the Glory! Stand up for Jesus, stand down from pride of life and human goals and accomplishments!

No more judgments and accusing and hurt feelings on any front! Let brotherly and sisterly love abide. LOVE NEVER FAILS! 1 Corinthians 13:8.

Bless the no exceptions camp. Bless the incremental camp. Bless the gays. Bless the straights. Bless the Christians, the Jews, the Muslims, and yes the Atheists, and everyone else not in this limited, pitiful and repentant diatribe. Lord please have mercy on us. We have ALL sinned and fallen short of your grace and glory. We need you!

Bless The Lord oh my soul, and all that is within me (Psalm 103). Brothers and Sisters: Depart from accusing each other. Love each other.

After reading blogs, tweets, texts and so many perspectives regarding the victories among us, the words of this song keep resonating:

“Lately I’ve been winning battles left and right, But even winners can get wounded in the fight. People say that I’m amazing, Strong beyond my years. But they don’t see inside of me I’m hiding all the tears.

“Unafraid because his armour is the best, But even soldiers need a quiet place to rest. People say that I’m amazing, Never face retreat But they don’t see the enemies That lay me at His feet …

“Deep inside this armor, the warrior is a child… (of GOD)

Peter told them, “God shows no favoritism.” Acts 10:34

Friends, I once was pro-choice, pro-abortion. Love won me over, God’s love, not legislation, not condemnation. WE MUST NOT FIGHT EACH OTHER. STOP DEFENDING AGENDAS!

I am crying today that GOD will help us depart from strife and confusion and to be able to do what HE leads each of us to do without second guessing each others’ actions and motives.

“For GOD so loved the world that Abba Creator gave His only begotten Son Jesus Christ, that whosoever believes on Jesus will not perish but shall have ever lasting life.” John 3:16

Friends, may we find more room in our hearts for God’s love, then share His love generously with others!

GOD in us will see us through.

Juneteenth 2013 – Free the wombs of the Brown, Black and Poor

Thursday, June 20th, 2013

130620 blog image

How’s this for a bottom line?

America can’t truly be free until Black, Brown and poor women and their babies are free.”

June is the month we celebrate Juneteenth. Every June 19, African Americans gather across America to remember. 150 years since the Emancipation of Black slaves in America, yet some didn’t get the news till two and a half years later. The revealing Executive Order below shows how deep seated inequity was and still is in America.

The slaves were advised to stay on the plantations and work for wages, yet the order didn’t include mandated wages. An incomplete formula results in years of chaos.

“The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor. The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at their present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts and that they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere.” –General Orders, Number 3; Headquarters District of Texas, Galveston, June 19, 1865

Now in 2013, Obamacare and uncontrollable abortion and reproductive genocide is taking a chaotic toll on women’s wombs and America’s families.

Speaking for a growing army of women, I and many of my associates are demanding liberty for babies and mothers. Congressman Trent Franks, a stalwart supporter of life, offered a pain capable bill to prevent abortions after the fifth month of pregnancy. Immediately, pro-abortion advocates trotted out their stale arguments that banning abortions after the fifth month will somehow jeopardize the health of rape and incest victims as well as women whose health is “endangered by the pregnancy”.

Every time a pro-life Legislator takes steps to rein in the out of control abortion industry, pro-abortion women attack, repeatedly making these claims. Omitted from the discussion is the impact abortion has on the woman who exercises her choice in the 5th, 6th, 7th, and as we learned in the Gosnell trial sometimes 8th or 9th month of pregnancy. It is time we had that discussion.

Congressman Franks stated that the incidence of rape resulting in pregnancies that are aborted in the sixth month of pregnancy or later is “very low.” How is stating this fact controversial? He’s trying to save babies’ lives – lives like the late term babies that convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell joked about when he said they “could walk to the bus stop”. Rather than have these babies decapitated and stuffed into juice containers by abortionists such as Gosnell, Congressman Franks would have them live. For this he is being viciously attacked. Yet America can’t truly be free until Black, Brown and poor women and their babies are free.

“Abortion supporters continually use rape and incest as a smoke screen and I’m sick of it,” said my friend Day Gardner, President of the National Black Pro-Life Union. “Do women who suffer the terrible and brutal crime of rape sometimes seek an abortion? Yes! Do women who conceive during rape allow their child to be adopted into a loving family or decide to raise, love and nurture their child? Yes! Pro-aborts misuse the terrible crimes of rape and incest to ensure the continuation of abortion at all costs. The smoke screen is used all too often to detract from the fact that abortion is a gory and savage practice that kills babies at all stages of life, and sometimes kills women”, she explained.

Along with Day, other women are raising the awareness bar. “I am haunted by Tonya Reaves”, said Catherine Davis, Founding Member of the National Black Prolife Coalition. “Planned Parenthood callously left this young woman bleeding in their facility for more than five hours. They could have and should have transported her the 1.7 miles to the nearest trauma center where her life could have been saved after they perforated her uterus and left parts of the baby inside her. She did not have to die, yet those who claim to be fighting for women’s health have yet to tell women their very lives, like Tonya’s, is in jeopardy”, Davis said.

We firmly believe Representative Franks is right to omit method of conception exceptions from bills he sponsors. We believe he is right in seeking to ban abortions after the fifth month when the life and health of the mother is critically endangered.

Again, America can’t be free until everyone, from the womb to the tomb is regarded as a person, created by God with certain inalienable rights.

I for one like God’s plan for emancipation, better termed Jubilee. I can’t help but believe that abortion isn’t included in this promise:

The first Jubilee

“In addition, you must count off seven Sabbath years, seven sets of seven years, adding up to forty-nine years in all. Then on the Day of Atonement in the fiftieth year, blow the ram’s horn loud and long throughout the land. Set this year apart as holy, a time to proclaim freedom throughout the land for all who live there. It will be a jubilee year for you, when each of you may return to the land that belonged to your ancestors and return to your own clan. This fiftieth year will be a jubilee for you. During that year you must not plant your fields or store away any of the crops that grow on their own, and don’t gather the grapes from your unpruned vines. It will be a jubilee year for you, and you must keep it holy. But you may eat whatever the land produces on its own. In the Year of Jubilee each of you may return to the land that belonged to your ancestors. “When you make an agreement with your neighbor to buy or sell property, you must not take advantage of each other. When you buy land from your neighbor, the price you pay must be based on the number of years since the last jubilee. The seller must set the price by taking into account the number of years remaining until the next Year of Jubilee. The more years until the next jubilee, the higher the price; the fewer years, the lower the price. After all, the person selling the land is actually selling you a certain number of harvests. Show your fear of God by not taking advantage of each other. I am the Lord your God. (Leviticus 25:8-17 NLT)

Black Leaders Davis, Gardner and King Say Method of Conception Exceptions is a Smoke Screen

Fr. Pavone applauds House for ban on late-term abortion

Priests for Life leader sends open letter to Rep. Nancy Pelosi

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, praised yesterday’s action of the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which protects unborn children from the pain of abortion from 20 weeks fetal age and beyond.

“For years, Priests for Life has supported the passage of this type of bill on the state level, and we have strongly advocated for its passage on the federal level as well,” Fr. Frank explained. “We thank especially Congressman Trent Franks for his leadership. Moreover, this major step forward in pro-life legislation comes in the context of our ongoing Stop D and E campaign (StopDandE.com) which educates the public — and legislators as well — about the graphic reality of dismemberment of living children in the womb.”

“We will now take the next step in this project by visiting United States Senators with the diagrams of the D and E procedure, and asking them if they think this barbarity should be legal. We will publicize the question to their constituents, and will let those constituents know their responses,” Fr. Frank added.

Responding to the statement from the Obama Administration that the President would veto this legislation if it were to reach his desk, Fr. Frank stated, “The President’s views on abortion are extreme, dangerous to women as well as to their children, antithetical to the principles on which our nation was founded, and simply barbaric. Nobody with his views on such a fundamental issue belongs in public office.”

Fr. Frank also released today an open letter to House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi in response to her comments on June 13 regarding late-term abortion.

“You make a mockery of the Catholic faith,” the letter tells her, and says that her comments “reveal a profound failure to understand your own political responsibilities.” The letter concludes, “Either exercise your duties as a public servant and a Catholic, or have the honesty to formally renounce them.”

Members of the public can read the letter, and sign their own name to it as well, at http://www.priestsforlife.org/pelosi
