Giftings and Callings

We are about a week into 2015, and the melee is almost deafening. Yet, in the distance, there is a “still, small voice” calling to us. Yes, the US Congress has a new face so to speak. Yes, America is waking up to the truth that racism still exists in our land. We know that anger and violence are lurking about. Yet, in the distance, there is a voice crying in the wilderness, compelling those who hear to use our “gifts and callings” to make a difference in 2015.

What can we do? We can speak truth to power. We can overcome evil with good. When people complain, offer solutions, not sympathy. When violence threatens, extend the “olive branch” of peace.

If you are a singer, sing a song of peace and love. If you are a dancer, do a peace and love dance. If you are a doctor or a lawyer, represent the poor and heal the sick. Yes, we have price tags on our gifts. After all, you, in most cases, you can’t pay your electric bill with a melody or a foot massage. It takes money to get about in this realm, on the low frequencies of life.

But, if we worry too much about charging for our gifts, natural and spiritual, we could just miss the “love boat.” Don’t be stingy this year. Give and it shall be given unto you. We’re not just talking about money here. We are talking about the unusual generosity of heart and soul. People need love. People need the Lord.

So answer the higher callings of life by sharing the gifts and talents generously (even if you get paid for what you do, and I hope you do; because generally if we don’t work, we don’t eat).

We can pay our bills by charging for our goods and services. Yes, we can, and we should. Yet, we can expect an increase of our “spiritual gifts” if we aren’t stingy in sharing truth and love throughout the year. So answer the highest callings in life by sharing your gifts of love and hope.

My Uncle ML once said: “Everybody can be great, because everyone can serve.” We have a chance to be great this year. March for Life, Walk for Life, MLK Week, Black History Month, Reconciliation Movement, Abortion SHOCKWAVES, so much on my plate in the year ahead. And this isn’t all by any means. How about you?

I just felt like writing something that isn’t political, not deeply intellectual (not that I’m ever truly deeply intellectual nowadays), not spinning in one direction or the other. This is just a moment in time when I’m taking a breath and letting it all out.

When a Nation Becomes Obsolete

Friday, March 15th, 2013

A few days ago, a person who is a highly respected professional shared a series of blogs with me. The title of the first article, “With no more cotton to pick, what will America do with 40 million black people?” resonated in my being, again. Mark Crutcher of Life Dynamics asks virtually the same question in his best selling documentary Maafa 21. I found this observation chilling in Maafa 21, and just as disturbing by this new release of information in the blog series.

The article starts out by saying that “America is now getting out of the Black people business.” Well, in the African American community, we have known this little secret piece of news for years. Once slavery was over, our people became a burden rather than the high premium free labor we had been during slavery days.

The African American community is a nation within the nation called America. Often, we are still treated as second class citizens. Of course, in Christ we can ultimately agree that there is one human race, and all human beings, born and unborn are created equal, and endowed by our Creator, God, with certain inalienable rights.

In my own testimony as an African American woman, I experienced racial targeting by the abortion industry. I talk about it in my book, How Can The Dream Survive If We Murder The Children? (Also available from your local book retailer)

While we are waiting for America and indeed the world to get this memo, perhaps you will find some of the information in these pages of interest.

You’re Teaching My Child What?

Thursday, February 21st, 2013

SPACERYoureTeachingMyChildWhatA recent article from the UK caught my eye this week. It talked about the corruption of our current generation. The sexualisation of our young people is something I‘ve blogged about and something that needs to be re-visited.

The article is written by a child psychologist who states, “I see the signs that are familiar to every parent: the eight-year-olds who are already worried about their figures; the ‘too-sexy too-soon’ 12-year-olds who won’t go out without make-up; the magazines aimed at 10 to14-year-olds that discuss oral sex.”

As a parent I understand the need to shelter our children from learning some things too early in life, like sex. As a pro-life activist, one of the areas we try to shelter our children from is learning about abortion and those images of aborted babies. In a perfect world the teaching of our children would be left up to the parents.

Once source that is trying to do the educating and stick its nose where it doesn’t belong is the abortion industry and Planned Parenthood in particular. Planned parenthood has gotten the foot in the door in many of our children’s schools to “educate” them in the area of sexual education. Talking about a conflict of interest.

Planned parenthood makes millions of dollars by performing abortions. They have a vested interested in making sure your child is sexually active and with any luck, and a lot of help from them, they’ll end up pregnant and in need of their services.

A recent video from American Life League demonstrates the role Planned Parenthood is playing to accomplish this end.

No condomAnother tactic the abortion industry uses to make sure your children need abortions is to use contraception that they knew will fail as admitted by Carol Everett, former independent abortion clinic owner, in the documentary film Bloodmoney available HERE.

We as a society need to not be afraid to speak the truth but first you must know the truth.

Parents, your children are learning about sex at an earlier age these days and the information they are getting is not always accurate or morally correct. And they’re not being told the truth about abortion and the harm it will do to their lives.

Parents, educate yourselves about abortion. Learn what they don’t want you to know and then teach your children. The life you save may be your grandchild’s.

African American Outreach Prayer

Friday, November 16th, 2012

ABBA Father, dear Creator God,

In your Word you command us to pray

For all who serve you in public office,

That we may lead peaceful lives.

We intercede for those in the offices of

President of the United States,

In the Congressional Black Caucus,

And in federal, state, county and local offices.

We ask for a new outpouring of your Spirit,

The Spirit of truth and life,

The Spirit of repentance and conversion,

The Spirit of courage and grace;

Let peace and love abound,

For ourselves and for those holding political offices.

May we be instruments of Your Holy Spirit

And witnesses of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In which alone we find hope for our nation and the world.

We ask this in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Where There Is Hope, There Is Love!

Friday, October 19th, 2012

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” – 1 Corinthians 13:13

I’m in the midst of a whirlwind tour in Connecticut. It’s such a joy to see pastors, students, teachers, and community folk gathered together to hear the gospel of life, the pro-life message, the message of the love of Jesus Christ.

Even in Connecticut, a very liberal state, there is hope; there is love.

From the road,
Dr. Alveda King

Keeping the message of sanctity of life in the forefront

Tuesday, October 9th, 2012

While abortion wasn’t mentioned in the presidential debate last week, a TV ad featuring abortion survivor Melissa Ohden ran on Denver’s NBC affiliate during the presidential debate. The ad, produced by the Susan B. Anthony List’s Women Speak Out political action committee, criticizes President Obama for opposing an Illinois bill that would have protected babies born alive after an abortion.

Pastors Speak On Abortion In The African American Community

Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

By Colette M. Jenkins
Beacon Journal religion writer

Three Northeast Ohio pastors have come together to urge pastors in the African-American church to use their pulpits to address issues affecting the black community.

They’re starting with abortion.

“I am not ashamed to say I am a black pro-life pastor and that the African-American church is guilty of not taking the lead on issues like abortion,” said the Rev. Walter Moss of Foursquare Church in Canton. “As pastors, we need to be able to come together and have a civil conversation about how abortion is affecting us and we need to be equipped with the information to help our people deal with it.”

On Thursday, Moss joined with the Rev. Dennis Butts of the House of the Lord in Akron and the Rev. Roscoe Heath of New Praise Ministries in Cleveland to sponsor a forum on abortion.

The Choose Life Conference, called What If You Were Chosen to Be Aborted?, was hosted by the Rev. Roderick Pounds at Second Baptist Church in Akron. It attracted more than 50 people, mostly pastors and church leaders, and featured talks by Star Parker and the Rev. Stephen Broden.

Broden, senior pastor at Fair Park Bible Fellowship in Dallas, has been a leader in the black anti-abortion movement for decades. He reminded pastors that it is their responsibility to represent the Christian worldview on abortion.

“How is it that we are murdering our kids at an alarming rate and why does it seem that no one is saying anything about it? Pastors, there is a judgment that awaits us for our silence,” Broden said.

“Pastors play a strategic role in turning this around. We are witnessing a war on black babies, a war on black women and a war on black families . . .

Young Black Woman Speaks the Truth Regarding Life Against Great Adversity.

Monday, August 20th, 2012

Galatians 4:16 – “Have I become your enemy because I am telling you the truth.”

A dear friend of mine sent me an email with this message.

“Here is a courageous young women standing for the word of God against abortion at a local community meeting full of opposition. Bravo Charita! Tell the truth and shame the devil. May God give you speed. Send it to your friends. Pray for Charita.”

See video HERE

It takes a lot of courage to do what Charita did. The Black community needs people to “fear not” and to stand up for the word of God expecially in times such as these. Do you have the courage to do the right thing?
