NEW YORK — Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement regarding today’s vote on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 36) in the House of Representatives.

“It is very fitting that on the two-year anniversary of the conviction of late-term abortionist and murderer Kermit Gosnell , our federal government is poised to take action to protect babies from a brutal and inhumane death at a point when they can feel pain. Many of Gosnell’s victims were well past 20 weeks. This bill would have protected them.

“We know from our work that some healthy mothers of healthy babies choose abortion after 20 weeks for reasons that have nothing to do with rape, incest or threats to physical health or life. Our ministry recently was asked to try to stop a healthy woman who was 30 weeks pregnant from aborting her healthy baby, but the abortion proceeded because there was no law to stop it.

“We must act now to stop this barbarous practice and protect these babies.”

Every Saved Baby Is A Step In The Right Direction

Monday, May 11th, 2015

This week Members of the US House of Representatives will vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 36). The vote was previously set for January 22, 2015; but a dispute regarding the language of the bill postponed the vote.

Now the language has been tweaked; the House will again work to vote on the bill which would protect babies 20 weeks of gestation or older from having to go through the horrific, painful dismemberment abortion.

Just as Rome wasn’t built in a day, abortion hasn’t ended as soon as a majority of Americans hoped. It was the same for abolishing slavery and ending segregation over the last many decades. Yet we know that as the Civil Rights Movement of the 20th century was about justice; the Movement continues today for the safety of mothers and their babies. Abortion isn’t a civil right; life is.

So abortion may not end all at once; so we must unify and keep moving forward. Every baby saved, every mother helped to choose life is a step in the right direction. Senseless infighting and friendly fire are our deadliest threats. The other side knows this. We must stop blaming and unify.

Remember, The 20th Civil Rights Movement did not achieve all its goals at once. Victory was accomplished in countless steps and hundreds of peaceful demonstrations. As one who marched, and was jailed and firebombed fighting for freedom and justice back then, I can assure you that we were not about to turn down any victory we could achieve just because it did not take us to the finish line all at once, right away. We had agape love, compassion and faith that we would eventually get there if we just persisted.

And just as with the Civil 20th Century Rights Movement, we of the 21st Century Civil Rights Movement will abolish abortion as long as we are persistent. So as we work together to save them all, we must also seek to save the babies and mothers we can right now.

Again abortion is not a civil right. Women’s rights is a civil right. Human rights are civil rights. And civil rights begin in the womb; from conception until natural death.

I join my colleague, Fr. Frank Pavone, in urging Congress to pass the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. To not pass this bill would be a civil wrong.

As Fr. Frank very has aptly stated, “It would be immoral not to support this bill.”

If you are reading this I implore you to contact your representative and ask him/her to vote YES on H.R. 36.

Fr. Pavone – This Election Was a Rejection of the Most Pro-Abortion President in History

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today described the Senate election results as a call for Congress to counter President Obama’s pro-abortion agenda.

“This election was a rejection of the most pro-abortion president in history,” said Fr. Pavone. “I am grateful to so many leaders and activists with whom we were proud to partner in order to register, educate, and mobilize voters to get to the polls. Now it’s time for the Senate to join the House not just in pushing back against Mr. Obama’s anti-life proposals, but also in moving forward on pro-life measures such as the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.

“The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act would spare babies of 20 weeks or more who we know can feel pain from the agony of having their limbs torn from their bodies,” stated Fr. Pavone. “Polls show that overwhelming majorities of Americans support the measure, but the Senate Majority Leader hasn’t even allowed it to receive a committee vote. The outgoing Senate leadership doesn’t care what the American people want – that’s why they’re the outgoing Senate leadership.”

Fr. Pavone also congratulated all the pro-life candidates who were elected, and all those who worked so hard to elect them.

“Throughout this election cycle, as in every election cycle, we insist that the people of God need to elect public servants who know the difference between serving the public and killing the public. We thank all our fellow citizens who had heeded that message, and made possible so many victories last night. Now it’s time for the work to continue.”

Fr. Pavone to US Senate Candidates: Do You Support Painful Dismemberment or Not?

Washington, DC – In a strongly worded statement on the day before the midterm elections, Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, called today on candidates for the United States Senate to take a clear position on a piece of legislation that would protect children in the womb from five months and older from procedures that dismember and decapitate them.

The Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, already enacted in various states, is based on the scientific evidence that by the time they reach 20 weeks of development in the womb, children can feel pain, and that therefore the state has an interest in protecting them from abortion procedures that tear off their arms and legs and crush their heads. The US House of Representatives passed this measure on the federal level. It was introduced in the US Senate, but the leadership did not bring it to a vote.

“If there had been a vote,” Fr. Frank said, “those already in the Senate and now asking for our votes would have gone on record regarding this legislation, which the majority of Americans support. By avoiding a vote, Senate leadership has given candidates cover from this uncomfortable question. But we should not. Every candidate for US Senate should be asked a simple question: Are you in favor of protecting children in the 5th month of development and beyond from painful dismemberment?

“Now there are those who will claim that the highest virtue in the political debate is civility and the best tactic is dialogue. But even if one takes that approach, one must admit that a civil dialogue begins with honesty stating your position on the issues. The problem with so many of these candidates is that they will not even take the first step toward civil dialogue. On the most important issue of life and death, they are mute.

“Some of the Senate candidates have indeed made it clear where they stand on the Pain-Capable bill. Others have run away from the issue. The failure to address such a basic question of life, death, and decency is already a failure of leadership. If a politician can’t respect the life of a little baby, how is he or she supposed to respect yours?”

Priests for Life: Gosnell Anniversary Links Pain-Capable Bill and 2014 Elections

NEW YORK, NY — Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement this morning:

“Today marks one year since the conviction of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell, who killed children before and after birth, and killed their mothers as well. I remember vividly the arguments in the courtroom, and how consistent these crimes are with what we see in abortion clinics throughout the nation, as detailed in the book Lime 5.

“Today we also join the voices of many in the U.S. Senate and across America in calling for a Senate vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. This legislation, which would protect children in the womb from 20 weeks forward, is the next key step in reaching our ultimate goal, which is the protection of every unborn child — all of whom, without exception, we acknowledge as persons. Even among those who do not share that ultimate goal or belief, most agree that a policy allowing abortion after 20 weeks — when these children feel pain — is too extreme.

“Along with working for the passage of this legislation, Priests for Life is also implementing a project whereby each member of the U.S. Senate will be asked publicly whether he or she believes that the lives of children after 20 weeks of development should be protected in the womb. Priests for Life will see to it not only that this question is asked, but that the response — or lack thereof — is widely publicized in the state that senator represents, and across the country. Like it or not, the painful dismemberment of children in the womb is going to be a key issue in this year’s midterm elections.

“Finally, Priests for Life is planning a national memorial service for the babies and moms who were killed by Kermit Gosnell. These babies were given names in a special ceremony last year at the headquarters of Priests for Life (see www.KermitGosnell.com). The Philadelphia Medical Examiner refused to release the bodies of these children for burial. But we can have a funeral service nevertheless, and we will be calling upon the support and participation of Churches, the pro-life community, and all citizens of good will.”

Fr. Pavone to U.S. Senate: Americans Support Pain Capable Bill; Do You?

NEW YORK, NY – A day after the release of a CNN poll that found 58 percent of Americans believe abortion should be illegal in some or all circumstances, Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, is calling on members of the U.S. Senate to take heed.

“The evidence is overwhelming that the tide is turning against legal abortion in America. A good first step, in response to this evidence, would be to protect children in the womb from the brutal dismemberment procedure that kills them halfway through pregnancy.

“Members of the U.S. Senate should pay close attention to what their constituents are saying, and vote in favor of the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.”

Fr. Pavone: Albuquerque Effort To End Late-Term Abortion Is Just A First Step

Wednesday, November 20th, 2013

Priests for Life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: November 19, 2013

Contact: Leslie Palma
347-286-7277

NEW YORK, NY – Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, released the following statement regarding the defeat of a proposed 20-week ban on abortion in Albuquerque:

“Pro-lifers in Albuquerque and elsewhere should not feel discouraged about the defeat of the effort to protect unborn babies from 20 weeks forward. It is a brilliant strategy and we will see to it that this effort is introduced in other cities and states. The fact is, of course, that children have in fact been saved through this effort, simply because we have raised the issue of fetal pain, which does not even cross the minds of many abortionists.

“The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act has been introduced in the U.S. Senate and already passed by the House. This effort in Albuquerque has helped raise awareness of the inhumanity of a procedure that can no longer hide behind the euphemism of choice. We will build on that awareness to pass this measure on the federal level.

#ABQ4Life Vote is Critical

baby being rescued

Womb babies are under siege and until legal abortion ends, they are all under the bus. We must continue to rescue them one battle at a time while increasing the frontline attacks to end the scourge.

Firefighters rescue people from burning buildings sometimes in droves and sometimes one at a time. Yet, a life saved is a life saved. The same is true for the abortion war. A victory for the fetal pain ordinance in Albuquerque is critical because, if accomplished, more babies would be rescued from the abortion bus while we continue to wage and win the war.

Science teaches us that by 20 weeks, unborn babies hear and respond to their mother’ voices. They also feel the excruciating pain of the abortionists instruments as their small hearts are pierced or their fragile bodies are torn apart. Late abortion after 20 weeks not only kills the life of a pain-capable unborn child, but it wounds his or her mother.

While all abortions pose physical and psychological risks for the woman, medical risks from these brutal late abortions are markedly increased – and even include risk of death. I stand with the people of Albuquerque who are seeking to ensure that the law reflects our society’s desire to protect the innocent out of compassion both for the mother and the child.

Priests for Life Supporting Albuquerque Efforts and Beyond To Protect Pain-Capable Children

Priests for Life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: November 18, 2013

Contact: Leslie Palma
347-286-7277

NEW YORK, NY — As Priests for Life urges voters in Albuquerque to support on Tuesday a measure protecting children in the womb from painful dismemberment, the organization also announced its intentions to extend this protection nationwide.

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, stated, “In regard to Albuquerque, there is only one correct way to vote in the election of November 19 and that is to vote to protect children in the womb. An up and down vote like this admits of no ambiguity. Those who fail to vote to protect these children have innocent blood on their hands. Whatever else they use their hands for in the future, the fact that they still have those hands is more than we can say about the children who will lose theirs if this measure does not pass.”

Fr. Pavone also announced that Priests for Life, which has been working for years to pass measures on the state and federal level to protect children from late-term abortion and to educate people about fetal pain, will redouble those efforts, including the following initiatives in 2014:

a) The distribution to every Church and, indeed, to every American, of the diagrams depicting dismemberment abortion (See www.priestsforlife.org/resources/medical/de.jpg);
b) Prayer campaigns to raise initiatives and pass laws to protect children from late-term abortion;
c) Working with states and cities nationwide to pass measures to protect pain-capable children;
d) Working with the US House and Senate to pass federal legislation to protect pain-capable children;
e) Educational initiatives about fetal pain and late-term abortion, including radio ads and television programs;
f) The distribution to activists of full-size posters showing the reality of dismemberment abortion;
g) Sharing the testimonies, through the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, of those who have had late-term abortions.

More information on these and related initiatives will be announced in coming weeks at www.StopDandE.com.

Janet Morana and Georgette Forney, co-founders of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign (www.silentnomore.com) joined Father Pavone in urging support of the Albuquerque. In a joint statement, they said:

“Women who have late-term abortions typically have bonded with their babies, especially in cases where the health of the child or mother is at issue. Early termination to simplify a complicated pregnancy only serves to protect the doctor. The mother and family are left trying to grieve for their loss, while struggling with the stigma of abortion. We must offer better health care to women in these circumstances. Perinatal Hospice and serving both patients are better ways to approach this need.”

Dr. Alveda King, full-time director of African-American Outreach for Priests for Life, spoke of the increased risks women face when undergoing late-term abortions.

“While all abortions pose physical and psychological risks for the woman, medical risks from these brutal late abortions are markedly increased – and even include risk of death. I stand with the people of Albuquerque who are seeking to ensure that the law reflects our society’s desire to protect the innocent out of compassion both for the mother and the child.”

Albuquerque, Babies Need Your Vote!

Friday, November 15th, 2013

Please join Priests for Life in our prayers and efforts to further protect children in the womb by encouraging people in Albuquerque, New Mexico to vote for and support the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act that will prevent babies from experience the pain and horrors that abortion brings inside the womb of pregnant women. If passed, hundreds of babies will be rescued.

We wouldn’t do to cats and dogs what abortion is doing to kill little babies in the womb. We must act now to do the decent thing, speak up and vote for those who cannot speak for themselves.

131115 Blog Image2Early voting for this measure ended today; Father Frank Pavone, National Director of PFL is urging everyone who has not yet voted for the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act in Albuquerque to make sure they get to the polls on Tuesday. And he is urging every American to join Priests for Life in contacting every U.S. Senator on the record to ask how they would vote on a similar ban on late-term abortion because such a bill was introduced in the Senate this month by Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Father Stephen Imbarrato, who is part of the Priests for Life team as a Priest Consultant, and is founder of Project Defending Life, is in Albuquerque working for the passage of the bill.

“We are facing a well-financed pro-death force,” Father Imbarrato said. “Planned Parenthood has put huge amounts of money into this battle because they know if we win and they lose, this initiative will spread to cities all over the country. We are mounting a true grassroots get-out- the vote strategy focusing on the churches and people of faith.”

131115 Blog Image3In a 1967 Christmas sermon, my uncle, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said: “The next thing we must be concerned about if we are to have peace on earth and good will toward men is the nonviolent affirmation of the sacredness of all human life. …Man is a child of God, made in His image, and therefore must be respected as such….And when we truly believe in the sacredness of human personality, we won’t exploit people, we won’t trample over people with the iron feet of oppression, we won’t kill anybody.”

In a few days, many will celebrate Thanksgiving, and Christmas will swiftly follow. One of the greatest gifts we can give to babies in the womb and their mothers is the gift of life. After all, John 3:16 teaches us that God so loved the world that He gave us the gift of Jesus Christ. God says to choose life. We can help give the gift of life and love by protecting little babies in the womb from the pain and destruction of abortion.
