Thank Gov. Rick Scott for his action to defend fair elections
November 14, 2018
As usual, Florida, where I now live, is involved in a vote recount.
After last week’s elections, three races – governor, U.S. Senate and agriculture commissioner -- were determined to be too close to call without a recount.
Gov. Rick Scott is leading in his Senate race against incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson and has been taking action to ensure that the recount proceeds without shenanigans.
And what he is doing protects not only Florida voters, but you!
And so I want to thank and encourage him.
The problems in Florida go back a long time. We all remember the Presidential race of 2000. Then, and in multiple elections since then, there have been problems with the ballots in the Democrat-dominated Broward County.
So common have the problems been there – including illegal activity – that the state of Florida had already decided to keep a close eye on the vote counting there in this 2018 election.
But still, the problems continued.
Broward County didn’t meet the deadline on election night for reporting the votes, nor the subsequent reporting requirements!
Illegal ballots, furthermore, were mixed with legal ones.
Some ballot boxes were left unattended.
And more ballots appeared out of nowhere!
A judge declared that the election supervisor there was violating the Florida Constitution.
An official statewide recount is now underway.
Governor Scott is ahead in the race and he will not stand by and watch his hard-fought victory stolen out from under him.
Because if that were to happen, the election would not be just stolen from him – but from the voters!
The bottom line is that elections are not free-for-alls. They have to be conducted according to the law:
Laws that determine who can vote…
Laws that determine the methods used in vote…
Laws that determine how the votes are counted…
Laws that determine the deadlines by which they are counted.
Rick Scott is the Governor of Florida, and it is his job to enforce the law. And that’s exactly what he is doing. He is not trying to deprive voters of their vote, but to make sure the election is legal and fair.
And if there is something about the law that should be changed, the legislature can do that in its next session.
But what we don’t need, whether in Florida or anywhere else, is a political circus in which the rules change in midstream, deadlines are not respected, and the boundary between legal and illegal votes is no longer clear.
Governor Scott’s actions are necessary and correct. Let’s show our support by thanking him for defending the integrity of the election process and ensuring that every vote counted is a legal vote.
I’m asking each of you to thank him for being steadfast and honest. By clicking here you can put your name on this message of thanks and I will get it to him for you.
Please act today, and please pass along this email to as many others you know who may be interested. You don’t have to be a Florida resident to do this, because as I said, this is about protecting the integrity of our elections all across the country!
And thank you for being part of the Priests for Life Family!
