Ask your lawmakers to protect your money from
funding the killing of babies
February 18, 2021
Shortly after the Supreme Court made abortion legal, it also said that the government does not have to pay for it. And most Americans don’t want to.
But the Democrat Party does, and they always try to increase abortion funding through many provisions, on which Congress has to vote separately in each session.
Republicans have introduced a bill called the No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Act, which, in one fell swoop, would protect our money permanently from going to abortion across all these different funding streams.
We need your help and your voice to get this bill passed, and to challenge especially the Democrat members of Congress to support it.
I know you do not want your tax dollars to fund abortion in the United States, and you are in good company. In a Knights of Columbus/Marist poll, 58 percent of respondents opposed using taxpayer money to fund abortions within the United States. The breakdown among respondents’ party affiliation shows 31% of Democrats oppose this use of taxpayer money, as do 83% of Republicans and 65% of Independents.
Earlier this month, Rep. Chris Smith, a Republican from New Jersey who leads the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus, introduced H.R. 18 — the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2021. The bill has 132 co-sponsors.
And now it needs our support.
“When federal taxpayer dollars are not available to help effectuate the demise of unborn babies, lives are saved,” Rep. Smith said when introducing the bill. “Abortion violence must be replaced with compassion and empathy for women and for defenseless unborn baby girls and boys.”
As I said above, this bill eliminates abortion funding across the board. Among the benefits of this legislation is that it would
- Permanently prevent the federal government from funding abortions
- Make the Hyde Amendment permanent, banning federal funding of abortions through programs like Medicaid. (This amendment alone has saved 2.4 million lives.)
- Codify the Smith Amendment, which prohibits federal employee health care plans from funding abortion, and
- Prohibit federal funding of abortion in several other federal programs throughout government agencies.
- Ensure that the Affordable Care Act conforms with the Hyde Amendment.
I am asking you to call your Representative in Congress to urge him or her to support H.R. 18, even if they have already signed on as a co-sponsor, and even if they are Democrats who support abortion.
Please click here to find out how to call your Representative and what to say when you do.
Please act today, and please pass along this email to as many others you know who may be interested.
