Tell Congress to oppose the Equality Act
February 24, 2021
Don’t let the name of the bill fool you. The Equality Act, to be voted on in the House this week, favors some over others. The unborn, as usual, fare the worst in this Democrat-sponsored bill.
We need pro-life members to stand strong against these bills.
They will say the word “abortion” never appears in the bill. But that’s the problem. Federal law makes an exception to abortion in various places where otherwise it would be mandatory to fund it, but the Equality Act drops that exception, putting abortion on par with legitimate medical procedures.
This bill has been described as “a Trojan horse for the abortion lobby.” The bill would amend the Civil Rights Act to prohibit discrimination based on an expanded definition of “sex” that includes any condition or treatment related to pregnancy and childbirth (thereby including abortion).
Moreover, it applies this to the provisions of the Civil Rights Act pertaining to employment, housing, public accommodations, public education, federal funding and other aspects of life. It would establish abortion on demand at any stage of pregnancy as a protected right by outlawing “pregnancy discrimination.”
This is the Democrats’ way of enshrining abortion as “health care” and painting those of us who oppose it as bigots. Healthcare workers – along with all the rest of us -- would no longer be protected by conscience rights. All laws passed on the state level to protect mothers and the unborn by regulating abortion would be nullified because, again, they would be seen as discriminatory.
This reverses decades-long, bipartisan federal policy as well as the laws in place in most of the states.
