Thank House Republicans for cutting off abortion funding

May 22, 2025

Friends,

Today is a day of victory!

Early this morning, the House of Representatives passed President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” and – among other fabulous policy items we all voted for in November -- it contains the language that will cut off Medicaid funding to abortion businesses, including Planned Parenthood.

Now the bill still has to pass the Senate – but it’s a “reconciliation” bill, which means it only needs 51 votes – which means we don’t need any Democrats, and we should be able to get it done.

So many of you played a vital role in getting this bill passed in the House. You lobbied with us in DC and in your home districts, you responded to our action alerts and made calls, you posted on social media, you prayed, and much more. My team and I thank you all for your efforts.

Now I’m asking you to thank your Representative if he/she voted in favor of the bill, as most of them did.

The vote, 215-214, couldn’t have been closer. Two Republicans missed the vote:  Rep. David Schweikert of Arizona arrived too late for the vote and New York’s Andrew Garbarino fell asleep during the all-night session and missed it.

“He fell asleep in the back, no kidding,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Rep. Andy Harris of Maryland voted present, which would have effectively been an opposition vote if the rest of the lawmakers had tied. As chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, he wanted bigger spending cuts.

Two Republicans voted against the bill. Ohio’s Warren Davidson and Kentucky’s Thomas Massie said they were concerned that the bill would increase the federal deficit.

Nonetheless, we won, and I’m grateful to the Republicans who voted in favor of the bill, and I would like you to thank them as well.

As soon as you can, please call the office of your House member if they voted for this bill, and thank them on behalf of the pro-life movement.

On the other side of the aisle, the Democrats are stuck in a pro-abortion, anti-Trump rage that won’t get them anywhere fast.

On the other hand, the president’s goal in getting this budget passed is to reduce wasteful spending. And there is no bigger - or more tragic - wasteful spending than sending our tax dollars to fund abortion sellers.

If this bill passes the Senate intact, it would cut off the major source of taxpayer funding to abortion businesses.

So in addition to calling your House members, I’m also asking you to storm heaven with prayer! (And soon you’ll get another action alert regarding the Senate.)

Priests for Life and our supporters have been heavily involved in the nationwide effort to stop abortion funding, so I also want to offer all of you my thanks.

Today is a day of victory and a major step forward for the pro-life movement. Praise the Lord.

When you click on this link, you’ll be letting us know that you will be in touch with your member of the House of Representatives. Thank you in advance for your readiness to take part in this project. It will have a tremendous impact!

And please forward this to anyone on your e-mail list who may be interested -- and encourage them to do the same!

Regards,
