Abortion Doctors and Nazi Physicians: The Satisfaction of a Job Well Done

Nazi Doctors

Psychiatrist Robert Jay Lifton interviewed 28 former Nazi doctors, including five who worked in the death camps.  Dr. Lifton also interviewed 80 Auschwitz survivors, including many who worked as prisoner-doctors along with the German medical staff.

One survivor asked Dr Lifton what kind of men the Nazi doctors were.

“Neither brilliant nor stupid,” Lifton sums up his reply, “neither inherently evil nor particularly ethically insensitive, they were by no means the demonic figures–sadistic, fanatic, lusting to kill–people have often thought them to be.” – The Nazi Doctors: Medical Killing and the Psychology of Genocide by Robert Jay Lifton

Dr Lifton in his study of Nazi doctors discovered that these men developed the capacity to separate the gruesome and disturbing aspects of their role as Nazi doctors, from their normal life as family members, husbands, wives and parents:

Dr Lifton: These doctors had not killed anybody until they got to Auschwitz, so they weren’t extraordinary killers to start with. They were ordinary people who in that way were socialized to evil… They did selections, they selected in the camps…In a sense, they ran the killing process… So when they were in Auschwitz they had an Auschwitz self…But they would go home to their families…and they would be ordinary fathers and husbands where they would function in a relatively ordinary way… (The Nazi Doctors: Medical Killing and the Psychology of Genocide by Robert Jay Lifton)

Normalizing the Abnormal

Dr Anthony Levatino is an ob-gyn and former abortionist:

Dr Levatino shares about performing a later term Dilation and Evacuation (D & C) procedure:

When the abortionist finishes a suction D & C, he has to open a little suction bag and he has to literally reassemble the child. He has to do that because he wants to make sure he didn’t leave anything behind.

Abortion doctors by necessity must disconnect from the larger moral and human reality of what they are doing.   An Abortionist is desensitized by repetition of the procedure to the human natural shock and horror of a dismembered baby, and over time is focused exclusively on a sense of professional satisfaction   that they have performed a successful procedure removing all the “products of conception.”  Medical professionals are especially vulnerable to such dissociation, as a detached technical focus is necessary to efficiently and accurately perform procedures.

The legality of abortion and training young physicians to perform the procedure legitimizes and normalizes what is a very un-natural event.

Dr Levitino:

My experiences are perhaps a bit more universal in terms of obstetricians and gynecologists in the country who were trained to do abortions during their residencies and then continued doing so as part of their private practice, but not the major part.

The social sanctioning of abortion exploits those ob-gyns who feel a professional responsibility to offer abortion services to their clients.

This socially sanctioned killing alongside of life affirming ob-gyn services further promotes this internal division within the soul and psyche of the abortionist.  Dr Levatino:

There is no better news for me than to put that scanner on [a mother] at seven and eight weeks and show them a heartbeat and say: Your baby is okay. You do that as an obstetrician all the time.

And then, an hour later, you change your clothes, walk into an operating room and do an abortion.

Dr Levatino stopped doing abortions soon after the death of his young daughter in a car accident.  The shock of his daughter’s death somehow connected him to the humanity and value of those hundreds of children he destroyed in abortion procedures.

Tragically many abortion doctors fail to have this moment of enlightenment.   They remain numb and cut-off from the humanity of the child, the true nature of the procedure and their role in this death and destruction of human life.

The Price of Disconnection

There is a high price to for an abortion doctor who continues to function in a long term state of moral and spiritual disconnection:

Dr. Brewer…”when I was doing abortions, my life was in a shambles in terms of drugs, immorality and all the rest.” Abortionists, he said, “have marriages that are on the rocks…

Nita Whitten, working as a secretary in a Texas abortion clinic, became depressed and addicted to drugs. “I took drugs to wake up in the morning,” she said. “I took speed while I was at work. And I smoked marijuana, drank lots of alcohol….this is the way that I coped with what I did….” After having an abortion herself, she became severely depressed and at one point planned to commit suicide.(37)

Kathy Sparks, medical assistant at an Illinois clinic, thought she was not bothered by the blood and gore…But she… used alcohol and other drugs. Some other staff at her clinic were on drugs, she said, and several were alcoholics. – Ex Abortion Workers: Why They Quit

 Rationalized Justification of Evil

Dr Lifton found that the Nazi doctors thought of the prisoners as pre-dead. Every prisoner in Auschwitz was marked to die, they reasoned. They had no control over that. To experiment on their prisoner/patients was to bring some good out of those who were already sentenced to death. To select the old and weak for the gas chambers was actually a form of compassion because it spared them the more painful experience of starvation.

Amanda Marcotte at Slate defended Planned Parenthood after undercover videos revealed they were trafficking in the sale of baby body parts.  Marcotte tells us it’s ok to extract the organs or body parts from unborn boys and girls for medical sale and research because it’s what the parent wants.  They are going to die anyway so might as well derive some benefit, right?

Marcotte: We…shouldn’t deny women who want to donate fetal or embryonic remains to science any more than we would deny someone who wants to be an organ donor, even though the latter is also quite gross to ponder.

More from Amanda Marcotte at Slate:

Abortion is gross, no doubt about it. It becomes grosser the later in a pregnancy it gets. But so is heart surgery. So is childbirth, for that matter. We don’t deny people who need help in those cases because the help is gross.

Nazi doctors were seduced by the twisted philosophy of Hitler and other German racial purists. Dr Lifton revealed that these men felt called to be part of a great messianic medical mission – cleansing the body of the great German nation of the Jewish infection.

But this would require some messy and really gross medical work.

This soldiers who liberated Dachau discovered some pretty gross things:

The bodies of human beings were stacked like cords of wood… Human bodies neatly stacked, naked, ready for disposal. The arms and legs were neatly arranged, but an occasional limb dangled oddly…There was an aisle, then another stack, and another aisle, and more stacks… (Liberation of Buchenwald, by Harry J. Herder, Jr.)

Planned Parenthood’s  Dr Nucatola sharing over lunch about abortion techniques that aid in the extraction of baby body parts:

“We’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m gonna basically crush below, I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact.”

It’s ok…It’s legal!

The Nazi doctors were doing nothing illegal in Nazi Germany. The systemic destruction of the Jewish people, the mentally disabled and other enemies of the state was the socially sanctioned law of the land.

Samantha Allen at the The Daily Beast tells us not to get ourselves all worked up over the videos showing a Planned Parenthood doctor sipping wine as she casually discusses selling baby body parts.  It’s all perfectly legal…so everything is good:

But although Nucatola’s comments raise questions about the acquisition of fetal tissue and the ethical issues surrounding its collection, the transfer of human fetal tissue is not illegal in the United States. Women undergoing abortions sometimes choose to donate fetal tissue for scientific research and abortion providers do not facilitate these donations without their explicit consent.

The Light of Truth

Thankfully some physicians and abortion employees, such as Dr Anthony Levatino and the late Dr Bernard Nathanson are repenting and healing of their participation in the death of unborn children.

In January 2016 at the March for Life in Washington DC, Dr Levatino stood side by side with mothers, fathers, grandparents and siblings who have lost loved ones to abortion.  This powerful image of healing families and a society fractured and wounded by abortion, reflects a real hope that we can turn away from this darkness.

Pray we can soon come to recognize as a society that abortion is the ultimate destroyer of not only the innocent unborn, but the Shockwaves of Abortion exploit and injure all who participate in their death.
