[Ashley Slavik, a blessed wife and mother of two daughters, will soon complete her Masters degree in Catechetics and Evangelization at Franciscan University of Steubenville. Ashley responded to an invitation from the Holy Spirit to apply what she has learned in her graduate training in a creative way with those who may be struggling with their faith, and would benefit from some emotional and spiritual support. I asked Ashley to share some information on her new outreach, Letters of Light Ministry.]
Ashley: The concept of Letters of Light Ministry is simple. Anyone can write me a letter, it doesn’t have to be elaborate, and I will write you a letter back. I hope to be the voice of a friend to you, to listen with a heart of deep empathy or to help you grapple with questions of faith.
In my letters I often include a prayer I write specifically for you, and I will continue to pray for you in my daily life. I am hoping to provide hope to anyone who needs it through this Catholic ministry of handwritten letters.
Writing down our prayers and the questions on our heart is like “praying twice”- it can be a powerful and healing experience. My hope and prayer is that this humble exchange may provide some spiritual direction, a listening heart of love, and a way forward with the hope of Christ to you. God bless you!
